Official Class of 2011 College App Support Thread

okay so the common app is now online.
this is just a thread for support in order to make it through this long process.

what schools are you applying to?
are you finish your essays?
financial aid forms info?
etc etc etc

Just share it all!

am i the only one suffering through this process?

Probably.

(word count)

lol! screw all of you!

I feel like it’s so incredibly early to be doing stuff. I’m applying to Duke, UVA, W&M and GMU though. All I’ve done is fill out the basics, I’m kind of done with the essays? I’m just scraping stuff together from scholarship essays I’ve written in the past soo…yeah.

I’ve filled out most of the general information like name/DOB/parent info. I’ve yet to complete my essays.

Staying local so far…Seattle University + Gonzaga University

I’ve filled out the general information and bits of the supplements, but none of the actual supplementary essays. And I’ve done a draft of my main CommonApp essay. The financial aid stuff is confusing the frick out of me.

^ lol the finaid stuff is very very confusing to me too.
i have to stop procrastinating with these essays :/

I finished my freaking out at the end of July, ha ha. I started going crazy right at the end of June, so I had more time to get it all out of my system, I suppose!

I’ve finished my common apps essay and I’ve more or less finished with my list of colleges. I’m currently working on my resume and I’m saving my financial aid crap until I can grab the attention of one of my school’s guidance counselors.

The thing that’s freaking me out the most right now is SAT prep. My first score was an extremely dismal 1780, but I’m hopeful because that was my score without any prior practice. I’m hoping for at least a 2000!

Oh my goodness…

I’m SO behind :frowning:
I haven’t filled out any parts of the common application.
I haven’t started my essay either because I have NO idea what to write about.
I don’t have my finalized list of colleges because I’m still searching and taking some tours.
I already took the SAT (which I’m not satisfied with!) and I’m taking the ACT this Sept.

I’m such a procrastinator … Ugh. I’m slow.

^ Don’t worry…I think most people aren’t even posting on here because they’re in the same situation as you.

Okay, I feel readier now…I’ve pretty much finished my CommonApp essay, my SATs are completely done, I’ve finalized my r

I have no freaking clue what to write about and my essay is the absolutely most important thing ever, because A) my gpa is 3.0 and B) my SAT is 1230. These two things would be perfectly acceptable and get my scholarships at any of the local, well-respected colleges… but I don’t want to go to any of those. sigh

And now I’m more confused than ever. Being a senior sucks and I just want to be in college and done with it.

Yeah, the more that I go through this process, the more depressed I get. Is that happening to anyone else?
Worse for me, I have two different applications to fill out (common app and questbridge) and about a million essays. I’m shooting for a dream college, and getting very depressed every time I think about their acceptance rate.
Gah, wishing it were over

thanks for making this thread, I’m going to need it lol

Yeah, idk. There’s so much stuff coming up this fall that I’m starting to get scared. I have to take some SAT 2s again, and I have about 10 billion essays to write for college apps and other stuff.

What’s worse is that I (and many others) would totally be qualified to do well in many schools and we would all totally fit and find some friends. Even in a class of only 1000, I highly doubt that someone wouldn’t fit. This whole “fit” thing makes no sense. Anyone intellectually curious with a good heart, ethics and personality would “fit” at the top schools. Its scary to think of how big a crapshoot applying to colleges is.

As for the essays, this is what I’m doing
I’m writing a freewrite essay for every topic I’m even considering having my essay on. Then I’ll pick the ones I like best/are most important and refine them. Hopefully this method will work.

and don’t worry Jenonymous- applying is alot different from actually picking a school to attend (unless you do ED). I just finalized my list too.

good luck everyone!

Okay, right now I have six reaches and one kind-of match. My counselor’s going to kill me.

This morning I woke up at five a.m. and realized there are 11 days before schools starts. Couldn’t fall back asleep. Now, I’m thinking about college apps. I’m applying to Bowdoin, Amherst, Williams, Dartmouth, Yale, Brown, Middlebury, Connecticut College, Grinnell, Colby, Oberlin and Ohio State. I only have Brown, Bowdoin, and Amherst’s supplements done and my common app essay. Yes, I am a bit stressed, but I’ve been wasting my time this morning reading and playing Wii.

^ You’ve done supplements??

-runs away in tears-

That said, it’s 11:15pm here. Maybe I’ll just go to bed instead of freaking out.

Well, just remember that even if you don’t get into your dream school, there are plenty of other colleges out there for you! There’s no point in getting depressed and worried over one college when there are thousands of others to choose from.

I would start looking up colleges before doing anything else on your list. And the summer really isn’t the best time to be touring colleges, in my opinion. If you’ve got the time to spare, then go for it. Otherwise, wait until winter vacation and get the things you need to get done before everything else (which, I believe, is the category that you fall under).

Starfruit - I’m a bit ahead because I’m turning my apps in in late October/ early November. I also have a crazy senior schedule, so I’d like to get ahead start.

Haha, I’m planning to send my apps in mid-September. My school schedules everything so that we’re crazy inundated with work until December. So intelligent.
