<p>Decision: Accepted</p>

<p>Stats:</p>

<pre><code>* SAT I: 740M, 800CR, 800W
* SAT IIs: 800 (Math IIC), 730 (Physics), 800 (Literature)
* GPA: 4.25w (probably 3.96 uw)/4.0
* Rank: 17/206
* Other stats: 5s on AP Lang & Comp, Spanish Language; 4 on US History. National Merit Finalist or whatever
</code></pre>

<p>Subjective:
* ECs: mostly theater, also some fencing, some dance, Mu Alpha Theta, Girl Scouts...mostly theater. Quite a bit of community service through school, Girl Scouts, etc.
* Essays: The main essay I wrote for Rice was my favorite of all the ones I wrote for college apps. I really liked it a lot, and evidently so did Rice!
* Teacher Recs: Probably really good (didn't read); I had to fill out these extensive forms for all of my rec-writers, which were almost college apps in themselves, so those probably helped increase the quality.
* Counselor Rec: Probably really good (didn't read); I know she adored me. I talked to her a bit, so...yes.
* Hook (if any): My beautiful essay that I am still in love with, Gold Award, started school's chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. Girl going into physics, maybe? Oh, I also showed initiative by self-studying the Physics SAT II since my school's curriculum is stupid. <em>shrugs</em></p>

<p>Location/Person:</p>

<pre><code>* State or Country: Texas
* School Type: Catholic
* Ethnicity: white white white
* Gender: Female
* Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: I have very good numbers, but I haven't done anything super-mega-awesome. I'm also from Texas, which is minus thirty points right there. :rolleyes:
* Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Eh, who knows. I think the objective part of my application was very strong, and then my essays/recs pushed me over the edge.
</code></pre>

<p>Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Congratulations everybody!! Deferred people, good luck in RD! I'm actually headed off to MIT, so I won't see any of you guys next year, but best of luck with your lives, etc, etc, etc.</p>

<p>Accepted! Congrats to all who got in! Is anyone going to VISIONS next weekend? :)</p>

<p>what's visions?? i'm visiting campus thurs night to sat morning but that's just to do an overnight</p>

<p>Accepted. Also offered a Trustee Distinguished Scholarship.</p>

<p>Ugh...I almost definitely still favor MIT (EA admit) over Rice though...</p>

<p>Can you give me the Rice scholarship then?</p>

<p>Was scholarship information included in the email, or do you have to wait until you get your letter?</p>

<p>You have to wait until you get the letter.</p>

<p>I'm simply amazed at the stats. At the same time, they make me feel discouraged. :(</p>

<p>i'd have to agree with kevster1001...but at the same time the stats are quite inconsistent so I think it really just depends on what you personally have to offer.</p>

<p>yeah MenalQ is correct....my stats are awful <em>Well just my SAT scores.lol</em> So i guess it was what i had to offer other than BRAINS hahah! Jus kidding.</p>

<p>Goodluck RDers</p>

<p>hahaha my stats aren't stellar... i spent quite awhile trying to figure out why i got accepted :S</p>

<p>who knows what those admissions people think!</p>

<p>you guys are gonna be like what the? but</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted!
Stats:</p>

<pre><code>* SAT I (by section): 700M, 610V, 540W (1850) I'm pretty sure they ignored my SATs...

* ACT: 32 <-- this saved me.
* GPA: 3.96UW <-- this too.
* Rank: top 10%
* School Applied: Social Science
</code></pre>

<p>Subjective:</p>

<pre><code>* ECs/Community Service/Work Experience: 316 hospital volunteer hours. VP Student Council (the easiest position), NOH, Golf Varsity, Euphonium player in Band...I dunno.
* Essay: Common App was about me joining a rock band and Rice supplement essay was a narrative of me at Rice, walking around The Loop. (Did that around midnight of November 30th...)
* Teacher Rec(s): They were probably the greatest recommendations ever written in the history of recs.
* Counselor Rec: Good I guess...dunno really.
* Hook: Umm I'm not from Texas. Maybe not many people from Iowa apply there.
</code></pre>

<p>Location/Person:</p>

<pre><code>* State or Country: Iowa
* School Type, Average Stats of School: small Catholic. really small.
* Ethnicity: Filipino American
* Gender: Male
* Hooks: IOWA
* Strengths: Oh yeah I write the editorials for the school newspaper, they might have liked that?
* Weaknesses: satIIs
* Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Teacher Recs, my great procrastinated essays.
</code></pre>

<p>Other Factors: No interview, never been there.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
I waited for the physical envelope to come in the mail, and opened it and I was like 'why?' My mom taped it too, should I youtube it?</p>

<p>Now should I go to Rice (no scholarship obviously) or Creighton (maybe 3/4 tuition covered)???? Rice looks like a pretty tough school. </p>

<p>I am sooooo sorry to those who got denied! You all seemed to deserve to get in. I hope you're happy wherever you end up. I'm still pretty unsure about Rice; it's a great school, but I don't know if I can put my parents through the 40k tuition (my bro went to WashU and that doesn't help).</p>

<p>Well, see you at OWL WEEKEND!!!!!</p>

<p>^^^
Go to Rice.</p>

<p>n8<em>a</em>a, I'm in the same boat as you, no scholarship to Rice, or go somewhere else with a decent amount of money. Ugh. </p>

<p>Decision: Accepted</p>

<p>Stats:</p>

<ul>
<li>SAT I: 0000 (didn't take it!)</li>
<li>ACT: 36 composite, 33 Writing/English</li>
<li>SAT IIs: 740 Math IIC, 760 Chem</li>
<li>GPA: 3.98 uw /4.0</li>
<li>Rank: 20/390~ (school doesn't weight grades at all, we're going to have 18-19 "valedictorians" this year)</li>
<li>Other stats: 4 on AP Calc sophomore year, about 2.5 years worth of community college and university credit</li>
<li>School applied to: Social Sciences</li>
<li>Rice/Baylor?: Yes, but I'm not feeling too confident about it.</li>
</ul>

<p>Subjective:
* ECs: Played guitar in Jazz Band (Essentially Ellington finalist), lots of marching band percussion (won lots of marching band competitions) But it should be noted I only did these freshmen and sophomore year. Other stuff: a decent amount of hospital volunteering, lots and lots of work in my church starting up and running a youth group/praise band. I also did some other small stuff, but nothing really meaningful.
* Essays: Common app essay was okay. Rice essay was much, much better.
* Teacher Recs: I never read them, but I think they were really good.
* Counselor Rec: Didn't read it, but I think it was pretty good
* Hook (if any): None? Asian male w/o math or science awards.</p>

<p>Location/Person:</p>

<ul>
<li>State or Country: Washington</li>
<li>School Type: Suburban Public</li>
<li>Ethnicity: Korean</li>
<li>Gender: Male</li>
<li>Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: 36 ACT composite was definitely helpful. I think my Rice essay and teacher recs were really good too. My main weakness lies in the lack of national ECs or anything "truly amazing."</li>
<li>Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Eh, not exactly sure. I think my numbers were pretty good and the college/uni credits were really helpful too.</li>
</ul>

<p>Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Well, I'm relieved I got in, but I really, really wish I got a scholarship. Hopefully the financial situation works out and I can see you guys next year in Houston.</p>
