Make sure you apply for financial aid. Rice makes pretty good packages, and caps student loan rates so that you graduate with reasonable debt. Total of $14,525 if your parents make over $60,000 a year, less if they make less.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Rice is one of my top picks! YEAH! I did my interview on the phone but the person seemed pretty happy about it.

Update: Hey I got a Trustee Distinguished Scholarship! This is awesome! Dude I mean, my SAT isn't THAT good, and I thought my GPA was pretty normal for Rice. I guess they really liked my subjective stuff. Maybe somethiing bout leadership, although really, my school's small so there isn't too much competition.

I got a Trustee Scholarship too! :] I had a question about that actually. If you look on the last line of the second paragraph, does it say something like "your community service achievements certainly merit your selection this year" or is it personalized?

Also, I'm a Century Scholar, which is pretty exciting. :D Does anyone know when we can start working on our research project for that? Is it almost immediately when we get on campus or do we typically wait till second semester?

february_rain - it looks like the Trustee Distinguished Scholarship letters were personalized to fit the individual. My son's says that he was selected because of his research accomplishments.

ok now that you guys have been accepted, COME TO RICE. you wont be disappointed. its the best decision ive ever made

Hi jjjjj
What about Rice makes YOU love it so much?

im curious too

good job to all who got accepted. You'll love Rice, as I'm sure you've heard many many times before. If you got rejected or deferred, don't worry about it. As much as people don't like to admit, a lot of college admissions are a crap shoot. My raw stats (SAT/SAT II, AP scores) were not even close to some of the stuff I have read, but I was accepted. For those that got in, as I said, you'll love Rice. Choosing to come here is probably the best decision you will ever make

oh man where to begin!

everything about this place is great. my neighbors, my roommate, my gf, my classes, my profs, the campus, sports, social activity, diversity.

i got into a bunch of good schools and it is impossible that i could be happier anywhere else. i think this belief is mutual with all students here; ive never heard of someone transferring out of rice, but plenty of people who try to transfer in!

wow a 2400, i dont think i've ever heard or seen that before. congrats man thats insane. was that in one sitting? to all regular applicants and class of 2012 applicants, dont get too discouraged, i got in to Rice with a 2100 and 2210 the two times i took the SAT, which by CC standards and the apparent standards of many of the top university boards like this one, is quite mediocre.

nope, composite. but i didnt get any merit aid, so it really does prove that sats are useless

Yeah, these stats make mine rather pitiful. I got in for 2010, took a year off to be an exchange student, and will see some of you this fall hopefully! Owl Weekend for me was fantastic and it was what made me decide to go to Rice (that and the rejection from Yale, hah, but I think Rice has better environment anyway). Good luck to y'all on the rest of the college app process.

Congrats to everyone who got in; I am soo excited and cant wait till the Fall.

I am amazed by some of the stats I've seen. impressive.

From the Rice SAC: "According to the Admission Office, just under 1,100 high school seniors were offered admission to the Class of 2011 on February 10!"

It doesn't say how many applied ID though... I would think, given the usual percentage of ID acceptances, somewhere around 4500 applied. Anyone have official numbers?
