Chicago was actually my 3rd choice, and since I got rejected from my top 2, I guess I'll be going there. I underestimated it big-time, though, and I'm not at all unhappy about attending. In fact, I can't wait.

Same, Chicago was also my third choice and I too got rejected from my top 2. I'm really happy though, because I knew I didnt really have a chance for those two

[li] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: Test scores and grades, I suppose.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I'm heartbroken :-(. I fell in love with the school a long time ago and I thought I had a chance. This is really hard. But I sincerely congratulate everyone who got in--it's an amazing place and an amazing opportunity. I'm a firm believer in the idea that we are always ultimately placed where we are supposed to be, and I guess that U of C just isn't where I'm supposed to go. It's hard, but it's not the end of the world. I'm just going to stay in California, I suppose. University of California here I come!!! And like I said in another post, at least now I don't have to buy thermal underwear now, right? :-) Congrats again to all you lucky people who made it in!!!

[] Essays (subject and responses): The function one. Took a more philosophic approach, writing about the complexity of the universe in regards to portrayal of data, discussed platonic forms, free will vs. predetermination and the predictability of functions, etc. Strong conclusion, including a quote from Pascal. According to my friends who read it, it was a pretty strong essay; could have swayed them.
