-Sent my Curriculum Vitae and polaroid pictures of me doing my community services and my internation experience

Sorry to repeat this post from the other stat thread, but this is probably a more appropriate place for it;

Decision: ACCEPTED

Stats:
SAT: 650M 680V 740W
SATII: 720 Bio E 630 Lit.
GPA: 3.60, but it's deflated
Rank: about top 25%
Other stats: 4 year Varsity tennis MVP and captain, West Virginia Ecological service project, "employment" at an inner-city needs organization, NHS, school tutoring, National Latin Scholar, various church activities (newspaper, altar serving, etc)....

Subjective:
Essays: Well-constructed, but I was concerned that the first was a bit off-topic.
Teacher Recs: Probably very professional. I had my English teacher/academic dean/ moderator of NHS write one.
Counselor Rec: Personalized and very intuitive, considering I worked with my GC one-on one throughout high school. He really wanted me to go to Wake.
Hook (if any): Legacy (dad), ED deferral, only applicant from my school

Location/Person: Columbus
State or Country: Ohio
School Type: Catholic. college prep; our school goes above and beyond preparing its students for the grade-deflation and involved workload of high-level college classes.
Ethnicity: White, mostly
Gender: Male
Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Legacy probably helped, but I feel that I was qualified even without it. I kept in touch after being deferred by taking the SAT II's and writing a brief letter to assure that Wake was still my top choice. I visited, and spoke with a visiting admissions counselor as well. I think my essay(s) may have made up for my lower SAT I's. Overall, it probably came down to subjectivity and a bit of luck.

Advice for prospective applicants: If Wake is your first choice, go ED. It shows that you're truly commited
, and not using Wake merely as a "back-up" school. Also, put your best effort into your essays. They really can set you apart from others who have the same stats as you. Finally, VISIT! The tours are very informative and a great way to determine whether or not Wake is the right place for you.

Attending?: YOU BET!!!!

PS - kind of funny, I remember writing all of this in a chance thread about 6 months ago!

Decision: ACCEPTED

Stats:
SAT I: 2200 (780M, 690CR, 730WR)
SAT IIs:730 US Hist, 790 MathII, 750 Bio-E, 700 Chem
GPA: 4.0 UW, 5.42 W
Rank: Top 1% in county (no school rank)
Other stats: IB Diploma Candidate, Math Team, Math Honor Soc, SS Honor Soc, lots of volunteering activities, golf, karate, piano, etc.
Subjective:none
Essays: on a biology class dissection lab, very thoughful; put a lot of effort into short answer ques
Teacher Recs: never saw, but probably good
Counselor Rec: never saw, but probably good
Hook (if any): diversity?

Location/Person:
State or Country: Florida
School Type: Public
Ethnicity:Multiracial
Gender: Male
Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: most challenging possible schedule as strength; so-so ECs as weakness
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: very demanding IB schedule, high GPA, good test scores

Decision: ACCEPTED

Stats:
SAT I: 2210 (didn't send though)
SAT IIs: na
ACT: 33
GPA: 3.55 uw, 4.4 w
Rank: not reported by school
Other stats: National Merit Finalist, Maryland Distinguished Scholar, IB Diploma Candidate, 4 year varsity tennis #1 player and 2 years as captain, lots of community service, held 2 jobs all of high school (30+ hours a week)

Subjective:
Essays: nothing stupendous on long common app, short ones probably quite terrible
Teacher Recs: one good, one written by a teacher i thought was illiterate after reading it
Counselor Rec: awful (completely generic letter comparing me to some book about successful people, point by point and obviously used for many different students)
Hook (if any): none. usually would be work experience but I heard wake doesn't look at that too much

Location/Person:
State or Country: Maryland/DC
School Type: Catholic
Ethnicity:White
Gender: Female
Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: good ACT, lots of service and work experience, bad GPA, bad essays, terrible recs
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: no idea but so glad I was!

thevinster, the fact that you got in makes me lose faith in all humanity. Come on a 1620, that isn't right man.

Haha, TAce, oddly enough I remember reading your chance thread what seems like forever ago. ;)
I don't know if this thread is for decisions in general (ED and RD) but I'll put my stats up anyway to help the prospectives of 2009, even if some people saw these stats when the ED round came about. I applied Early Decision.

Decision: ACCEPTED
Stats:
SAT I: 2090 (650M, 730CR, 710WR)
SAT IIs: n/a
GPA: 4.0 UW (I think); 4.7 W
Rank: Top 10% in class (no school rank)
Other stats: Literary magazine, debate, lots of community service (including mission trips)
Subjective:Can't think of any
Essays: On a community service project similar to habitat for humanity, spent a TON of time on the "in brief" essays which weren't so brief when I was finished, lol
Teacher Recs: probably good
Counselor Rec: never saw...hopefully good.
Hook (if any): Can't think of one except that I applied early

Person:
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: most challenging possible schedule as strength; as weakness, probably that I have a variety of ECs rather than one specific focus (i.e: I have a friend whose ECs all revolve around piano. She wants to be a composer, so it's good. =) )
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: rigorous courseload, community service? I'm betting applying Early Decision definitely gave me a boost! lol

As the above posters have stated, if you KNOW Wake is the school for you, try applying early decision if at all possible. I'm pretty sure it helped my chances. =)

Attending?: FOR SURE!

uncfan,

test scores dont mean the world to me.
and im glad there are institutions like wake that see past these stats.
its a multi-faceted application for multi-faceted people.
But you are entitled to your own wrong opinion.

thevinster: sorry a bit too harsh on the ^^post. I just don't see a correlation between those scores and an acceptance. Thats how my CC brain works! wow. I thought Wake weighted test scores heavily, but they do also like strong EC's which you obviously have. sorry and your right, its not all about test scores

Decision: Accepted
