**** Official Class Of 2012 EA Decisions ****

"I don't see how they got in and I got deferred" (Rdouglas8)

Well let start with the fact that you ACT is at the bottom 25th percentile. Second, you have only two years of EC out of four years of high school. Even for the Regular pool, your admission would be a reach let alone the competitive EA pool. And finally, EA is a for those who consider BC among their first choices, with comment like "it isn't my first choice school, so even if I get in regular I probably won't go." What did you expect?

Dear kwolfenden,

I don't know why BC didn't take you. Great SAT, solid GPA. My only guess would be the ranking. But honestly, I think you will get in RD. Good Luck!

EDIT:
Found one, here:

Decision: Accepted CAS!

I dont really have time to do everything but basically
4.0, top 2%, 2170, president of some clubs...

Attending if I can afford it!

In response to Reddune's post:

Firstly-I have not only had two years EC out of four. I just listed the most time consuming ones (although I did list everything on the application)- forgive me for not listing I've ever done in high school- I don't exactly have all the time in the world and honestly who wants to read everything.

Secondly- in comparison to the rest of the students from my school that have gotten accepted to BC my ACT scores are above norm- so I didn't think that had much of a bearing on the decision.

Thirdly- I didn't mean to offend anyone as I obviously did with you by saying BC was not my first choice school. Let me correct myself by saying it is one of my top choices, and your statement "EA is a for those who consider BC among their first choices" is true, but others also apply who do not have the option of applying early action anywhere else. Not everyone who applies EA is hellbent on attending BC. Just look at the rest of this thread.

Reddune - what you wrote is outrageous. Obviously she has more than two years of extracurriculars. Secondly, I serious doubt that in an interview or somewhere in her application she wrote "this isn't my top choice, do with this information as you will." Her preference should have nothing to do with her admission. Finally, EA apps are not as competitive as regular decision. What you wrote is pretty much off in every way. =/

Decision: Accepted

overjoyed, i was expecting to get deferred

Iriseyes, this statement couldn't be more wrong, "Finally, EA apps are not as competitive as regular decision."

They say on the website and in the eagle eye sessions that it is more competetive EA.

This is what Rdouglas has on the post:
"Extra Curriculars: 2 years of dance, tons of community service, model un, residential proctor- all things that take up loads of time, esp. the last one."

I read it quickly and misunderstood, for that I apologize.

But this comment is incorrect:
"Finally, EA apps are not as competitive as regular decision. What you wrote is pretty much off in every way."

Here is what BC has to say:

"The university aims to fill no more than 30% of the freshman class through the Early Action process, therefore, Early Action at Boston College is more selective than Regular Decision."
Frequently Asked Questions - Boston College

Also I did not mean to call out Rdouglas and I am very sorry for my overreaction. This time of year is stressful enough without getting deferred from places you're applying to. Good luck with whatever you place you do choose to go and I do hope you consider BC again.

Reddune is absolutely correct.
My daughter was a recruited athlete for BC yet had to pass the academic requirements like everyone else. She was advised to apply reg decision versus EA for a better chance of admission. It was good advise.

Go figure..the small envelope was a deferral , not rejection.
We are stunned, particularly because after reading the stats of other applicants I see here, she seems a little mediocre in comparison.

She hasn't submitted her SAT 2's because she took them a little late.

Maybe it was her community service, which was a rather large , single handed project

ooh man. seeing some of the deferrals is making me nervous.
i'm out on long island and still haven't gotten anything.
probably tomorrow? at latest wednesday?
bc's not my first choice, but it's the first college i'm hearing from, so i'm excited :D

Too lazy to use the code...

ACCEPTED College of arts and sciences, Honors Program

SAT's- 2120
II's- 720, 730
11/165, though unusually competitive class (my friend was accepted ED to Yale today, if that gives you an indication)
4.0079 GPA weighted, straight A's with all Honors classes throughout high school
Worked as a volunteer counselor for a Catholic summer camp this past summer, worked as a paid counselor the summer prior...other extracurricular things as well, but I think the camp volunteering is what did it for me.

SO HAPPY. Also got accepted to Notre Dame, but unless they offer me some incredible financial aid package, I'm going with BC. This is probably the greatest day of my life!!

AND, did anyone hear anything about Presidential Scholars?
