okkk anyone else still havent heard???!?!!!? im freaking out!

i didnt hear yet
but other people from my school heard
?!?!
and people with lower stats are getting accepted while the better ones are getting deferred..
i'm a little confused

It is not all about the stats. D got deferred, don't know the exact stats but SAT superscored is in the 720-750 range on each section, SATIIs are Lit=770 Math1=740, ACT=34, GPA=3.8 UW, rigorous course schedule --- she has taken most of the tougher APs (bio, chem, stats, lang, lit, no calc or phys though) and has stayed away from the fluff ones. Essays were good I thought (parental blindness, perhaps :-), ECs were good but nothing extraordinary. My guess is that reason for deferral was a relatively unremarkable class rank (11% UW) and somewhat uneven grades over the years. We are in the Pacific North West.

BTW, she did have the PayEnrollmentFee() function in her Agora code, so obviously that is not an indicator of anything.

Decision: Accepted

Maybe I'll post my stats later.

I sincerely want everyone to know that it's not always about stats and colleges can see that. Also, many of my friends got into their top choices , only to transfer later, while one of my friends got into a school at the bottom of her list and is having the time of her life. Please don't take deferrals and denials to the heart.

Dear GroovyGeek : I have been CAREFULLY watching some of the accepted/deferred and rejected statistics being posted. Some things that I have been noticing include these points.

[1] GPA and unweighted class ranking have absolutely taken a more dominant role in justifying some of the results.

[2] SAT three-way scores in the 2090-2200 range have gone both ways but the scoring seems to be about 30 points higher than last year - will be interesting to see the final stats on this.

[3] There was a report of a candidate with a 1500/2170 being rejected from CAS with an unweighted GPA at 3.5 which got me to thinking about these trends.

Good luck to everyone!

Scottj, I agree with the observation that class ranking is taking on increased weight in the decision process of the most selective colleges. I disagree that GPA plays much of a role, at least outside the context of the school. You can see people here posting a rank in the low single digits with a 3.5-3.6 GPA, which suggests some serious grade deflation at that particular school, and perhaps grade inflation at D's school. We are hopeful that things work out well for her in the long run and she walks away from this with a lesson learned about the need for a sustained effort, even when things are not going particularly well. Unfortunately, this lesson may cost her a shot at her top choice school. We shall see...

Decision: ACCEPTED

Teacher Recs: only read one-amazing, but then again aren't they all?

Counselor Rec: very good, even hinted that georgetown was my top choice

Interview - Again, I thought went very well- the guy told me i was exactly the kind of student they are looking for (maybe they all say that)

Hook (if any): I guess good test scores, solid extracurriculars

Weakness: My GPA and rank killed me

*Location: NJ

^I'm shock that you are deferred. But can you explain this:

"Interview - Again, I thought went very well- the guy told me i was exactly the kind of student they are looking for (maybe they all say that)"

I'm interested in knowing how many of you who applied used the Common App and how many used BCs app. It'd be interesting to know if that makes a difference. Maybe the Common App doesn't seem like you're interested enough because you're obviously sending it other places?

^ BC's app is the common app, there is no distinction.

So much for that theory! = )
