From a person who was actually accepted and a person who was actually deferred (not hear say):

Can you give the characteristics of the letters (both decisions) .... color of the envelope, very thin, very thick, any color paper that can be seen from the outside (straggling rumor)??.

As a kid living in PA who thought he would have his letter by now ..... I would appreciate your insight

Thank You

when you first open the acceptance letter, the first thing you see is a blue piece of paper with the words "financial assistance" and "housing" in bold

I've been a lurker for about a year now and just got my letter last night. Thank you fellow CCers for everything and I can't wait to see you all next year!

[ *] Summer Activities: Lifeguarding at local shore club, Intensive Latin grad student course at Columbia University, Spanish immersion camp, freelance photography, Chinese private study
[ *] Essays: Spectacular, polished and perfectly fit to Gtown
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: Very good, I suspect
[ *] Counselor Rec: again, very good, I suspect
[ *] Additional Rec: From a family friend and Gtown alum, very good
[ *] Interview: Stellar, went overtime and was told at least a 65% chance of getting in (she normally doesn't tell anyone), connected very well

[ *] Income Bracket: Middle-High
[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): both parents early-semi-retired
[ /list][ b]Reflection[ /b][ list]
[ *] Strengths: Highly academic, especially in Foreign Languages, Art History, History, and Writing. Applied to the FLL as a Classics Major (a little different, I would think)
[ *] Weaknesses: Sports? I mean, I'm varsity, but only barely. I don't take them too seriously. Relatively weak in Math/Sci, I guess
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My school had over 25 early applicants to Gtown, and I'd go as far as to say that 20 of them were under-qualified(hopefully, I am not included in that statistic). Gtown took 2 fairly qualified students but deferred the other 3 (I being one, and the other two quite impressive as well). I think Gtown deferred us because they don't trust that we'll commit if accepted, but that's just me trying to make the best of an otherwise heart-crushing situation.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Won the lottery, I suppose[/li][/ul]
I hope you find this helpful. We look at these top-tier schools as lottery schools - too often there seems to be no logical reasoning to accepted vs. deferred. We hit the lottery this time!

Decision: Deferred

Objective:
[] SAT I (breakdown): 750M, 720CR, 790W (1470 or 2260)
[] ACT: -
[] SAT II: 690 Chem, 760 Math I, 680 Physics
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.67u, 3.88w
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): My school provides neither, but according to the histogram I'm in the top 10%

[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended Scholar, National Honor Society, Honor Roll... nothing "major"
[/li]

Subjective:
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity Fencing (squad leader for 2 years, currently captain), Band (VP), Pep Band (VP), Restorative Justice, Taiko Club (leader), Varsity T+F, SADD (VP), private drum lessons for 7 years
[] Job/Work Experience: I wrote for a local newspaper over the summer - my editor gave me a topic and I took care of contacts, interviews, writing (obvi), etc.
[] Summer Activities: volunteering, music, political work, I interned at the DNC this August
[] Essays: awesome. I opened up my soul, man. One of them was less strong but it showed that I was multi-dimensional.
[] Teacher Recommendation: fantastic. my mom cried :)
[] Counselor Rec: pretty good, she explained the fiasco behind why I'm not taking a science this year.
[] Additional Rec: good but I expected it to be a little better.
[li] Interview: very long but it was nice. She was crushed when I told her that I didn't get in.
[/li]

Other[ /b]
[] State (if domestic applicant): MA baby
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: public, one of the best in the state, 98-99% go to college
[] Ethnicity: 100% white. damn.
[] Gender: female. again, damn.
[] Income Bracket: up there.
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): nothing.
[/li]

b]Reflection[ /b]
[] Strengths: SAT, courses ("very challenging"), extracurrics, essays (passion!!!), recs, probably interview
[] Weaknesses: GPA, SATIIs, not a ton of volunteer work, where I'm from
[li] Why you think you were deferred: I'm white, my family's been going to college for hundreds of years, I'm a girl, I'm from a wealthy New England community, my parents are married, I have never taken an AP exam, I have lived in the same house my entire life, my family has been in the United States since before its inception, and I'm an A- student.
[/li]

General Comments:** I'm hopelessly crushed. My essays must not be as great as I thought they were because if Georgetown admissions officers knew how perfect this school is for me and just how passionately I care about what I could bring to campus, they would have accepted me in a heartbeat. I thought that it could happen but now it's time to move on and hold on to the sliver of remaining hope. Great job to everyone who got in though, seriously. Best of luck to you all as this grueling process continues.

Cong!!!!!! to all!!!!Great!!! I appllied for RD.....

[] Interview: Ok. It was long. We talked about a lot of things, but the overall impression was that it didn't go so well. After I told him I hadn't had the chance to visit, he basically assumed that I had no interest and no knowledge about Georgetown. That was frustrating.
