Volunteer/Community service: Nothing special. <100 hours

Summer Activities: Walter Hautzig Master Class for like…5 or 6 summers, Adamant Music Schools Master Class with Andre LaPlante, Brevard Music Center

Essays: Common App. was about my participation in the Brevard Music Center Piano Competition and delved into my philosophy for performing and my altruistic intentions. ‘Why Northwestern’ was basically how perfect the 5 year double degree program was for me.

Teacher Recommendation: ALL of the teachers that I asked to write recommendations sent them in. ALL six of them. I only meant to send three, haha. But they were all really good.
Counselor Rec: Pretty good.

Location/Person:
• State (if domestic applicant): GA
• School Type: Public
• Ethnicity: Half Indian, Half White
• Gender: Male
• Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Somewhat of a minority, extracurricular activities, essay, my dad conducted medical fellowship at Northwestern, etc….but really I think my piano audition did it for me.

Reflection:
• Strengths: ECs, essay, piano, demonstrated interest (I visited the campus, had a piano lesson, stayed the night, etc.)
• Weaknesses: DEFINITELY test scores.
• Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Because of my strengths. I think my piano, ECs, and essay made up for my test scores.

General Comments:
I’m just so relieved that Northwestern University has the sense to not judge an applicant solely on their standardized test scores. I’m so excited!

[/ul]Other Factors: Like I said, I dance prepro, and I'm really involved with technical theater (what I applied for)
General Comments: I'm kind of surprised I didn't get in, but I guess my gpa explains it. I guess the adcoms didn't care that I travel 1hr 20 min to get to school (one way) and half an hour to dance every day, which doesn't leave much time for studying. Whatever. I believe everything happens for a reason.

General Comments: Wow. I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT IN! I'M SO MEDIOCRE COMPARED TO EVERYBODY ELSE!

^^ Ink, I think your class rank is anything but mediocre lol.

I still can't believe I got in either, was not expecting it. I'm thinkin my essays and constant visiting made them pity/ semi-want me haha. Want to trade essays?

Yes! I'm all up for trading essays!

mk, I'll pm them over. I'd love to read the anime one :)

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I think they were decent. I didn't have any one read them for me, which I though would turn out bad.. but I guess it's fine! About being the token white girl on my basketball team. haha.
[] Teacher Recs: one stellar rec, one traditional-cookie-cutter rec that put me to sleep.
[] Counselor Rec: i've known my counselor for 3 months. I guess she did okay.
[] Hook (if any): n/a
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: IL
[] School Type: public, poor, crappy, and dangerous as a whole. But the academy ranks among the top programs in the nation.

[] Gender: female
[/ul]Other Factors:
EC's: 3-Sport athlete, 11 letter winner (Basketball, Soccer, XC - Captain), Rowing, Band (President), NHS, Key Club, French Club and FHS (vice pres).
I think my rank, W gpa, and ec's/essays were strengths. My counselor rec and that teacher were pretty weak.

LIMA: Your posted profile looks like a strong match for Northwestern University as theatre needs technical folks & dance is a major activity at NU. Your stats are very impressive & qualify you for any school in the country. Would you be willing to share--via PM--your "Why NU?" essay?
P.S. Theatre is probably the single most competitive major at Northwestern University. You would have, & should have--in my opinion, been admitted to WCAS with your outstanding accomplishments. It may be possible to reapply RD to WCAS & then take a certificate program in the theatre dept. (which may exclude you from the conservatory style acting classes). Good luck!

General Comments: I think a lot of my acceptance had to do with my ECs and my essays all tying into my passion and showcasing how Northwestern could help that progression

Yeah, I didn't know that the theater school was ubercompetitive, otherwise I would have applied radio/television/film or electrical engineering. I was actually slated to app r/t/f but then changed it at the last minute because I thought it was MORE competitive than theater. My counselor's fault, I suppose.

It's possible that NU thought I wanted theater design instead of theater production, which I think they get inundated with apps for.

I'll PM you my essay, but it's not that great. I mean, it's decent, but my personal statement is the one with my personality.

Honestly, I think this just shows the randomness of the system--had the NU people gotten to TALK to me about everything, I think they would have been impressed. But they didn't, because they don't interview.

I don't think I can reapp. I would love to, but NU said they don't do admissions decisions appeals in my rejection letter.

Yes, theater is harder than RTF, which doesn't seem to have a well-defined cap. I think the cap is also the reason why you were rejected instead of being deferred. NU is transfer-friendly so you can always do that. However, for now, it's best to focus on moving onto other schools.

^Exactly what I'm planning on doing.
