Official Class of 2013 ED Decision Thread

wow i was hoping this thread would be filled with good news ..o man...columbia cornell brown tomorrow....lots of tears to come.

Decision: Accepted!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: I scored a 1920 my junior year, my first time taking it. The coaches said they could work better with me if I got a higher score to move into the 3rd band on the academic index. I took it again and got a 2090. The breakdown was 750 writing, 750 critical reading and 590 for math.
[] SAT IIs: 760 US History, 700 World History, 580 Chemistry. I suck at chem...and math/science in general. I only ever did well in biology.
[] GPA: 91.2/100
[] Rank: Unweighted 110/447.
[] Other stats: I got a 29 on the ACT. I took all honors and AP classes, so the unweighted ranks at my school killed me. I got a 5 on the AP Us History exam, 4 on the English. I'll take the government one this year.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Apparently very, very good. Everyone I've showed it to(including a few staff at Williams and Amherst) said it was fantastic.
[] Teacher Recs: Very good. Most of my teachers thought well of me.
[] Counselor Rec: Pretty good. My counselor thinks well of me.
[] Hook (if any): I'm a minority(black, of Jamaican and St. Vincentian descent). I'm also a recruited athlete.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Upstate New York
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Afro-Caribbean(Jamaican and St. Vincentian).
[] Gender: Male
[] Intended Major: Probably something business related. Maybe economics?
[li] major strength/weakness: I suck at math and most sciences save for biology and earth science. On the other hand, I think I'm as good as anybody when it comes to language. [/li][/ul]Other Factors:

I'm a recruited athlete. I played runningback and d-line in highschool but I'm going to Dartmouth as a fullback. I visited every Ivy except for Cornell, Columbia and Penn over the summer. I also visited most of the NESCAC schools("Little Ivies"). I was recruited by Carnegie Mellon, St. Lawrence, RPI, Brown, Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, Colby, Wesleyan, and Middlebury as well as Dartmouth. Yale pretty much ignored me, while Penn and Princeton sent a few generic e-mails. I have a lot of legacy at Harvard(my uncle is associate VP and his daughter attended as well), but wasn't recruited too heavily by them either. I committed to Dartmouth way back in September. It was an easy decision. I changed my app to ED and that was it.

Denied. I am so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gotta love it

I'm posting this for my son, who is too excited to post.

[li] major strength/weakness: I don't know. I won NCTE and a few other writing awards, do research and debate, but whatever. I also got a C+ in AP Math junior year, so there you go.[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Things happen for a reason. I just hope I don't get absolutely slaughtered in RD everywhere.

Decision: DEFERRED

[li] Gender:male
[/li]

[li] Intended Major:undecided
[/li]

[li] major strength/weakness:science/math are strengths
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors:

wow this is scary...people with so strong stats get deferred...I'm no longer have a good feeling about penn ED anymore T_T

Me neither, Soy...

Deferred :(

I don't even know how to feel.
I'm worrying about my RD schools now :/

denied????

i don't know about dmouth, but penn takes half of their class early, so penn EDs, don't freak out just yet.

Accepted
White Male Legacy from SC
34 ACT
800,780 Sat IIs

I can't believe how many people with strong stats were deferred, but then I guess that just shows that stats aren't everything.

wow...so many applicants with strong stats...so many of them deferred.
i'm scared.

Deferred

GPA: 3.74 (unweighted)
SAT: 2340
SAT II: 770 US History, 740 Biology
Class Rank: None, top 10%
Weaknesses: GPA, Not standing out enough from regular Dartmouth applicants
Other: I sent in a strong theater supplement, which apparently didn't help much. I'm also an Eagle Scout, Managing Editor of school newspaper, musician, VP of Model UN, organize community service trips at school

I think I've seen about 3-4 applicants here deferred with standardized testing above Dartmouth's 75% for ACT or SAT. They really aren't.

Same here Sail640. Looking at my regular list with a lot of reservation. Then again, my best friend was deferred columbia last year and then accepted harvard
