soonermom, did you see snappybarton’s post a page back? He had communication from OU that had the same OOS expenses as you link, but his letter specifically stated “These out-of-pocket figures do not account for miscellaneous expenses such as a parking permit, athletic tickets, travel expenses, etc.” The way I figured in my long hand calculations, it doesn’t seem possible for those figures to include misc./travel expenses, unless one is in one of the low fee schools like A&S and has very low expenses. Are per credit hour fees in your son’s school on the low side?

Oh, since you have a child there, can you say if there is an extra $52.50/credit hour charge for the ‘academic excellence fee’, the way they seem to be indicating? If not, then that would be $1500/year less in expenses.

@lnmomof2 - we have received neither a letter at home nor has the school received its letter. I called yesterday, and the person I spoke with confirmed over the phone that ds had advanced to finalist. I asked him about school notifications (since they receive the certificates). He said they allow two weeks for delivery of school letters which would be (according to him) February 13th. He said the school should contact them if they have not received the letter by that date.

I am wondering if the school letters are sent in a lower mail class because they do contain certificates and are likely bigger/bulkier??? Perhaps that could explain why home letters are arriving ahead of school letters - just speculating.

We got a “Dear Finalist” letter yesterday at home. I emailed our guidance counselor to tell him last night and his response was that he just found out yesterday. Great news! Iowa State is offering full tuition.

celesteroberts… I didn’t see that post. Sorry! I just scanned this thread. I was basing my comment on the information we received last year when my son was looking. At that time, all expenses were considered. Sorry about the mistake. Yes, there is an academic excellence fee charged per tuition hour.

We are in Iowa. I’m not sure if Iowa State offers the same to OOS. We are also looking at Truman State in Missouri and they do offer NMF scholarships to OOS, which says, “Up to full tuition.” I sent them an email today to see if that would be in addition to or instead of what they have already offered for academic scholarship.

soonermom, I guess you got a slightly different package. They changed it recently, right? The extra dept scholarships one can pick up on top of the big NMF packages are nice. That wasn’t on my radar as a possibility at all when D13 was applying to schools, so a great surprise for us, and also the local one-time scholarships through HS.

pibbles, we used to live in Ames. It is a truly wonderful college town and I have such fond memories of our years there. Even better these days since they installed low decibel automatic horns at train crossings about the time we moved, so no more trains blowing horns night and day. Their NMF money is for in-state only.

Got my letter this afternoon in CA! I also called them during lunch because I didn’t know about the letter at the time. To call, it’s a really quick process and you just have to provide your name and birthdate, and then they’ll tell you whether you made it or not. If you guys haven’t received anything, I’d recommend giving them a call, since it kind of takes the anxiety away. Plus, the representatives were all very gracious
