What are my chanced for any type of academic scholarship from Pitt.

**Decision: ACCEPTED! **

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2250 (720M, 750CR, 780W)
[] SAT IIs: did not submit to Pitt, 2100
[] GPA: 3.84 unweighted
[] Rank: School does not weight or rank.
[li] Other stats: 10 honors, 8 APs
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Probably not bad (certainly the best of the ones I’ve written, but how can you judge your own essays?), but Pitt actually got my second to final copy… oh well, it must have been good. I also included an addendum as per instructions on the application.
[] Teacher Recs: I only sent one. I haven’t seen it, but it can’t be that good because I go to a distance learning school.
[] Counselor Rec: I didn’t send one to Pitt.
[] Hook (if any): URM + first generation / low-income / single parent

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Maryland
[] School Type: independent distance learning
[] Ethnicity: African American
[] Gender: Female

[/ul]Other Factors:

General Comments: Pitt is my safety school, but I still loved the school and would be more than happy to attend. I got into the Honors College, but no sign of the guaranteed graduate admissions. Money is going to be an issue. If I get the full tuition scholarship, I’m left with about $10,000 to cover. $4000 will probably be in the form of Pell Grants and other government grants… which leaves me $6000 a year to take out in loans. Unfortunately it’s likely that any of the other schools on my list can do better, but if worse comes to worst, I’ll love Pitt and graduate only about $30,000 in debt… not too bad.

This is for D2 (D1 is already there)

Didn’t apply to honors college…sweet I’ve gotten my first (hopefully not last haha) acceptance letter. I copied the post above me and edited, so that’s why it sounds a lil similar.

@ BevoUT: Why didn’t you apply to the honors college?

Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:

* SAT: 1560/2290 (800CR, 760M, 730W)

 • SAT IIs: 2340 (2 800s in one subject, 760 in another)
 • GPA: I honestly don’t know…see my class rank
 • Rank: School doesn’t rank, but I was just out of the top 10%
 • Other stats: Rigorous courseload at a competitive school, no FA, OOS (CA)

Subjective:

* Essays: Pretty good. It was only an initial draft, but I consider myself to be a pretty good writer

 • Teacher Recs: Didn’t send any!
 • Counselor Rec: I didn’t send any!
 • Hook (if any): OOS (CA)? No FA?
 • ECs: Nothing special, but shows initiative and (some) commitment

Location/Person:

* State or Country: CA

 • School Type: independent boarding school
 • Ethnicity: Asian
 • Gender: Male

Other Factors:

General Comments: Pitt is my safety school, but I actually really like the school and would probably choose it over the mid-tier UCs that are my safeties (UCSB, UCI, UCD). First one from my school EVER to apply to Pitt.

Yeah, all you have to do is check a little box saying you want to be considered. Although he probably wouldn’t have gotten into honors anyway because his rank looks a little too low.

PBush-

I was wondering when your application was registered as complete so I have an idea how long it took you to hear from them?

@alantill: My application was registered as complete a long time before I got my letter probably because I sent in all my stuff really early on, before the adcoms started meeting. I think the general consensus is the letter comes a few weeks after they receive all your stuff (registered as complete). BTW, you will totally know if you get in or not because the outside of the envelope has a huge “Congratulations” on it.

Is there any change to the online application status after it says “This application is Complete”? e.g. does it ever indicate “Decision has been mailed”?

I posted this question in another thread but my D is getting anxious so I’ll try here. Her guidance office sent her transcripts a week ago electronically. How long before it shows that her application is complete? It is still showing that her transcripts haven’t arrived. We are worried because the electronic system is new to our school. Did anyone else have their transcripts sent electronically and, if so, how long did it take before the portal showed that they had arrived. Thanks!

It will probably be different from all of us. I know I’ve had all my stuff in since early September, so there was probably less applications to look at then. I’m sure Pitt is drowning in apps right now so it may take longer for the status to update

My application wasn’t complete until the 28th of September, but I received my decision in the mail, in Maryland, on October 7th. That’s just a little over a week.
