Some Nursing Grad programs require a year of acute care experience. I was wondering whether Pitt waived those requirements for maintaining a certain GPA and GRE score.

Looks like it is guaranteed acceptance with a 3.5 GPA and over 1000 on the GRE. I am calling in a few minutes to see if they waive the acute care requirements and will update when I get the info :)

lol, smart.cookie I always thought you were female because guys don’t usually call themselves cookies. And I think you will get full-tuition.

I finally have information:

With the guarantee of acceptance you can enroll in any PhD or Master’s program not requiring clinical experience.

For those requiring clinical experience, that experience can be done while enrolled in the program. In other words, one could enroll part time in a NA program and work in an acute care hospital setting (though that would be incredibly demanding).

I am more interested in a non-clinical master’s, so I am really excited about this opportunity.

Also, I spoke with the representative from Pitt about the Nursing Living Learning Community. To be a part of the community one must select it as an option on the housing application. Perks include single rooms and living with an upperclassman nursing RA on the same floor, as well as community building events (both service and academically based).

All in all, Pitt has the most to offer out of all the schools I am looking at :)

^^^^^

Thanks smart.cookie for navigating through the admissions quagmire to get a definite answer. Which non-clinical master’s Nursing program are you interested in?

I am most interested in pursuing a PhD in Nursing, though would also consider an MSN in Nursing Administration.

@ schrizto: I guess I never read that far into my username selection It was an old email from middle school lol. Do you know when the scholarship notifications are sent out? A full tuition scholarship this early would mean I could submit my housing forms early and have a better chance of getting into the living learning community at Pitt (I would be 100% willing to commit to Pitt if the finances were in place).

Thanks!

The scholarship letter will come a few weeks after the acceptance letter. The learning community for nursing IIRC is in Lothrop and Lothrop is connected to UPMC which is pretty nice.

As for scholarship notifications, no one has reported receiving a letter yet. I speculate that they will begin to arrive late this week or early next week, and most people in the forum advise that scholarship notification tends to come 2-3 weeks after acceptance :)

can people also indicate when they submitted the application, when it was considered as complete, and when they received the decision letter?

I submitted mine on October 11th…application was completed on the 16th…got acceptance on the 23rd

Uuuugh I’m getting so impatient waiting for scholarship info!

My daughter received her acceptance from Pitt today and also found out that she was accepted into the Honors College! Very excited! Pitt is such a great school, and it really helps that we’re in-state.:)

Hey I just got my Sat scores back today. I
took them back in October (a week after I got my acceptance letter from Pitt)
I got into Pitt with a 1850 (590 cr, 630 Math, 630 Writing) which is a 1220/1600 which I knew would not really get any scholarships from Pitt. So Since I already got my acceptance, I didn’t use up my four free score reports on Pitt. But now I got a 1960 (670 cr, 660 math, 630 writing) which is a 1330/1600. I know the cutoff is 1400 but do you think it’s worth sending this score to Pitt after my acceptance for a small chance for scholarships?

You might as well send the new SAT scores. If nothing else, you might be exempt from some placement tests and math/English requirements by virtue of scoring above 600.

Does anyone have information on the stats of those who received merit scholarships last year?
