Congratulations to all!!! I recall that happy day when DS received his letter I can’t tell you how great an opportunity it is to graduate with little or no debt and DS has not regretted his decision to attend Pitt. He loves it there!

does anyone think i have a chance to recieve merit money?!

Congrats to all!

While it is sort of obscure, what do you all think about the scholarship awards? Are there certain “tiers”? Are they based on numbers alone? What is the most they give to in-state applicants? Do they ever get full tuition?

I apologize for all of the questions, but even though my son attended Pitt, I never figured out how the heck they award merit money.

I think you definitely have a chance at merit money, though they typically look for ACTs of 32-33 or higher. That said, you are very, very close to that, and if your second ACT does bump up to a 32 that would definitely help. For in-state applicants there are two award levels: $2000 and full tuition. I think that you definitely have a shot at either level, and it will really depend on your second ACT score and your essays. Your GPA and course rigor is great, so that should definitely help out. Best of luck!

Let me guess, eduardo…do you go to NA?

lfk725

There are two tiers of basic merit scholarships at Pitt. The full-tuition scholarships, for both in-state and out-of-state, seem to come in at the 1450 SAT score level. (At least, that was the clearly stated hard number two years ago.) There is also a lower merit scholarship which used to start at about the 1350 SAT score. In this case there were two different dollar amounts - $2,000 for in state and $10,000 for out of state. Part of what confuses everyone is that people don’t state if they are IS or OOS when they discuss their scholarships.

Of course there are other programs in place as well, such as departmental scholarships and other more targeted scholarships, but in general, there are really only two basic merit scholarships - full tuition and the $2,000 IS/$10,000 OOS.

whats NA? i go to north penn high school though.

is it north allegheny? i live out in eastern PA by philly

So how many of you are actually applying for chancellor’s? The essays are pretty tough :/

I wanted to add to Quiet Type’s assessment of Pitt’s scholarships that there are also merit awards that are designed to increase diversity. I’m not sure what the SATs needed for those would be. I suspect a case-by-case basis.

Hmm. I’d like to land a diversity scholarship. I’m waiting for my letter. I got a 1470 on the SAT so I’m hoping to get full tuition. Pitt is my safety school and my prospects elsewhere look pretty good, so I’ll have to see the Chancellor’s Scholarship materials before I decide to apply… I have a back stock of essays from QB and other college apps, plus many more to write, so unless the prompts are really obscure I’ll actually use the essays more than once.

Applicannot: Did you get matched with QB or is that upcoming? I know of a ouple of kids who got matched with Princeton so they are attending on a full ride :)

The Match is upcoming. It’s on December 1st. I only ranked the two most popular schools, so the likelihood of my getting matched is further decreased. It doesn’t really matter; QB Finalists do very well in the Match. It is incredibly impressive that you know “a couple of kids” who get Matched with Princeton - they Matched only about a dozen students last year if I recall correctly. I will get the exact same financial aid package from S or Y QB or no, so it doesn’t matter if I get Matched - rather, I would like to get in one way or another. That said, WUStL is actually my number one choice by a landslide. It also has the worst financial aid save for Pitt, GW, and Boston University (my safeties / low matches). At Pitt I’ll come out about $24,000 in debt if I get the full tuition scholarship (and I get the full Pell Grant, which I almost certainly will). At GW and BU it’s anyone’s guess - I’m thinking $15,000 at best and $30,000 at worst. At WashU it’ll be about $12,000 (since I can’t make a student contribution and I don’t want to work study for tuition, I need that for LIFE). At Yale and Chicago it’ll be about $7500. At Stanford it would be about $5000. At Rice it will be $0. I could have a very easy or very difficult spring, but no matter what, I’m looking at pretty good results.

Application completed:Oct 23,Acceptance letter received:Nov 2.Got into Honors College+Pharmacy program =]
Also what is that chancellor thing you guys are talking about?

Chancellor scholarship = full ride at Pitt. You are normally invited to apply if you receive a merit scholarship from Pitt.

Full tuition scholarship today (Honors Challenge) but no Chancellor’s Nominee invite.

This thread makes me feel so OLD :(

So, this is a stupid question but whatever… I’m ignorant on the college process. Since I’ve got a full tuition scholarship+4k engineering scholarship, am I expected to pay for everything else? Or will I still get some need-aid and loans and stuff? My family isn’t poor, but we’re not all that well off, either. Just curious how it works?
