Official Class of 2014 Pitt Decisions Thread

I’m pretty sure that after you get the merit scholarships from Pitt, everything else is federal. If you don’t qualify for the Pell Grant, you will be required to pay or take out loans for the remaining bill.

when were your scholarship letters postmarked? im really starting to think that im not getting one…

^Mine was mailed Oct. 28th. Arrived Nov. 2nd.

Hmmm… I’m pretty sure that I was in the first review… I applied in late May. Did it take the letters an extraordinary long time to arrive last year (after being mailed out)?

Should I be worried if I sent in my application in July, and had the application listed as “complete” in early October?

I haven’t gotten a decision, good or bad, from Pitt yet.

Now that is something to really worry about. Check your Pitt Portal and see if you have everything submitted. If so, Call the Office of Admissions and see wats up. Even people with low stats get a rejection letter or a letter asking for mid term grades in one month

Does Pitt combine the best SAT scores from Math/CR subscores to consider scholarship money? Thanks in advance

stats: ACT:33
GPA 4.7
State: Ohio
School: Pubic
Gender: female
Ethnicity: White
Still hoping for tuition scholarship

Full tuition scholarship and invite to chancellor’s! SAT 2300 (math is 700, rest are 800) SOOOO HAPPY

How many essays for Chancellor’s application? Does the online forms say your major? I was accepted but have received grad school invites.

@pinknpreppy: Postmarked 10-28-09, just got it today (i go to a boarding school but they sent it to my home address)

@collegesgirl: I will check this out for you and post back in a bit.

Anyway, got my scholarship letter today so reposting my initial decisions post

Decision: ACCEPTED, HONORS COLLEGE, FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP (invite to Chancellor’s Scholarship)

Stats:

SAT: 1560 (800CR, 760M)

SAT IIs: 2340 (2 800s in one subject, 760 in another)

GPA: I honestly don’t know…see my class rank

Rank: School doesn’t rank, but I was just out of the top 10%, 15%ish?

Other stats: Rigorous courseload at a competitive school, no FA needed, OOS (CA)

Subjective:

Essays: Pretty good as judged by myself and some other CCers.

Teacher Recs: Didn’t send any!

Counselor Rec: I didn’t send any!

Hook (if any): OOS (CA)? No FA?

ECs: Nothing special, but shows initiative and (some) commitment

Location/Person:

State or Country: CA

School Type: independent boarding school

Ethnicity: Asian

Gender: Male

Other Factors:

General Comments: Pitt is my safety school, but I actually really like the school and would probably choose it over the mid-tier UCs that are my safeties (UCSB, UCI, UCD). First one from my school EVER to apply to Pitt.

@collegesgirl:

Okay, I checked it out. The online forms are not pre-filled, so you can put whatever major you want.

As for the essays, they say “Respond to the obligatory essay and TWO of the topical essays for a total of three written essays.”

What this means is that you need to write an essay on the specific question they pose (I just read the question; it’s definitely meant to ferret out the truly intellectual students), and also need to choose to answer two questions from five they give you.

I hope this helps!

prismatic: was your scholarship letter dated 10/28 as well? or later because you were accepted after that? im just trying to figure out if i was reviewed more than once… or if im out of luck on this one

Mine was dated November 2nd. Maybe they went out of order on some, though?

Wow Mayfair, you got the Graduate School of International and Public Affairs guarantee with your acceptance? I guess I didn’t get one after all. Kind of bummed… that was a big draw for me.

Applicannot when did you get accepted? My intl.affairs guarante came 1.5 weeks after acceptance so you might still have a chance

Awesome motion. I was worried that Mayfair was implying it came with his/her acceptance letter.

I read the threads from last year-class of 2013- they mentioned that the scholarship committee met every Friday, and they must have just started recently- so there is still hope!
