General Comments:
I’m happy I got accepted, I hear umbc has a really great computer science program but I’m waiting until I hear back from UMDCP until I make my decision.

Just noting a trend here… are all of you incl. your current AP courses in the “Other Stats” section? I am.

@woahwoah:

Comp. Sci.!!! I know some people who are majoring in CS @ UMBC; its hard but worthwhile. I still can’t decide btwn a major in IS + minor in CS or just major in CS? I am not a code monkey and it takes me time to understand math. Your thoughts?

^ No just anything stat wise in general. You could include awards and stuff too. I wrote that stuff up really fast so I didn’t add much. Feel free to add anything.

IS doesn’t sound that appealing to me, I like math and computers and math with computers :stuck_out_tongue: I couldn’t see myself managing some schools network or something along those lines. I’ve been doing CS at my school for 4 years(AP computer science this year) and I really like it.

I would say that if you got a decent score on your SAT math, you’ll be fine in CS. The math I’ve done is mainly logic and problem solving type stuff, but it could be different in higher level courses so idk.

I dunno…I have a 760 math and a 4 on the ap bc calc test but i failed the ap comp sci. test. I got either a 1 or a 2 on it. I fail at cs so bad =[ I think the problem I have with cs is not being able to convert theory into code. I understand what I am supposed to make the program do (such as how to use binary trees). But I have trouble actually making my thoughts into code form.

@Misterpops92:

Considering your SAT scores, you’ll get a decent scholarship. And Yea, CS can be hard; I’ve taken two years of low-level programming @ my school, so I understand.

@Woahwoah:
Idk; I like IS and its management potentials. I know I’m work my butt of if I study CS. I’m in pre-calc. now, so studying is going to be important in my success.

Just a note:

Here is the list of the general merit scholarships @ UMBC:

Hey guys! Hope you all are doing well. I would like to make a Facebook group for the “UMBC Class of 2014” and was wondering if you all could tell me your facbeook information so I can request you all to join the group. Also, please let me know if you are definitely planning on attending UMBC next year as I would love to meet my fellow classmates.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Good job, everyone! I hope you all take a good look at UMBC for what it offers in the long run, and if you accept, I’ll see you in the fall!

-c/o 2013

Hey! I made a facebook group called “UMBC CLASS OF 2014”, it would be great if you all could join it.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I think a face-book group called “UMBC CLASS OF 2014” is quite a bit premature… I don’t think anyone has definitively chosen UMBC @ as their school of attendance. Just wait for a couple of months…

Just got my scholarship letter, dean’s scholarship with 2.5k a year

I got Heritage but was hoping for Premier. Anyone here that got Premier mind posting their stats? I just want to figure out how much I missed it by.

Wow, really? I have not yet recieved any scholarship letters. Hope to receive them soon.

@zman5:
What are your stats? Heritage is still a big deal, esp. if your in state.

I’m in state and Heritage is nice I just was was hoping for Premier. I had a 1490/2140 (stupid writing section) and a 4.0 UW and around 4.2 weighted. I am homeschooled though and wondered if that hurts me.

I received my letter today too! I made Premier which is really exciting for me (zman, my stats are posted on the previous page). My decision will be really affected by the Sondheim program though, so I still have awhile to wait before anything’s official.

Congrats to everyone else!

Thanks for the info and congrats on premier. btw whats the Sondheim program?
