This year’s reported EA acceptance at 43% is higher than usual and likely due to expected attrition of accepted candidates to both competition and finances (which will be the “next round” of college confidential discussions). Some quick arithmetic shows that the deferred pool is between roughly 30% and 40% of the applicants.</p>

Strengths: All the subjective stuff. My volunteer work, which I discussed a lot in my app, is fairly extensive. Recs were fantastic. Plus I’m Hispanic and a National Merit Hispanic Scholar (which there are 5000 of in the country). My SAT scores were decent too.
Weaknesses: My GPA… although most of my poor grades are concentrated in my soph year, and I had a legitimate explanation for that (both parents were unemployed, etc etc)
