** Official Class of 2017 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

I know, this wait is awful! I understand they have a ton of applications to go through and all but the suspense is driving me crazy. At least we all did early action; can’t imagine how hard it’d be to to find out later than this.

Already got accepted into my safeties, and I’m applying for the College of Engineering. Good luck to everyone here! We’re getting close.

My income bracket is sub-30,000 and I’m out of state. If I get accepted, I really want to attend but I would get much aid? :/

@sapharodon, I know exactly what you mean! Like, is getting deferred even worth it if we’d have to go through this ALL OVER AGAIN, and we STILL might not get accepted then?! :’(

@catsarecats, It depends on how many people are dependent on that income, how many children are in college, disabilities, etc., etc. Just make sure you apply for FAFSA.

Ohhhh yes, FAFSA is incredibly important in terms of financial aid. Independent scholarships don’t hurt either.

And yeah, having to REPEAT the whole waiting process until potentially April for a possible rejection… I don’t even want to think about it.

catsarecats, in that income bracket I’d be very surprised if you didn’t receive tons of aid. Like, almost full tuition paid aid. Especially if that is the income of a nuclear family, you can expect some pretty hefty aid.

Good luck to all applicants! ED coming within the next two weeks (I’ve heard 14th-18th is when the bulk of decisions are released). I’m in to my safeties and have a ton of other places to complete apps to, so this is a very nerve-wracking but exciting time for me.

Did anyone explicitly say that U of M is your top choice in your essays?

Cof2013, who told you that decisions would start being released on the 14th?? Is that certain??

Just got here, I’m so nervous about Umich! I’ve been accepted into all my safeties so far, but idk I’m worried. Got into MSU and nearly a full ride to Wayne State, and I got into George Mason with possible scholarship options, but waiting for Umich is killing me!
@Cof2013, they usually start releasing them the Friday before the deadline, but that’s only a few days early this year (December 21st), so they might start releasing on the 14th but that’s pretty early.

Does anyone know how much it helps to be a first generation college student? I know that being 1st gen and from a low income family helps a ton, but my family isn’t exactly poor. We had a gross income of about 80k about 5 months ago and then my mom got a huge promotion and now we’re at 150k+… conveniently right before I had to start sending out apps…

@everyone: I could be entirely wrong here; I’m basing it on last year, where I had tons of people at my school go the ED route and get their decisions around the Friday before the deadline, as Mr. President 49 said. In particular, I remember the people at my speech team’s Christmas party checking their phones and receiving decisions- that was Friday the 16th. I still keep in touch with a few of those people and they both said they wouldn’t be surprised at all if the release coincided with our party again (which is on the 14th). I would be surprised if it dragged on past the 14th-21st, personally; a lot of universities give a Dec. 24th/Dec. 25th deadline to themselves for ED but in reality release it earlier than that because the university basically shuts down for Christmas.

You got merit to Wayne State too? I went to Scholars Day and love it but its like 10 minutes away from my house and I’ve spent every summer there so it isn’t much of an experience. Great school though!

I never applied to Wayne State, mostly because I had never heard of it until my whole “application process” was over. I’m sure it’s a good school in its own right, though. :)

@doctarini yeah I did, but I live in Troy and I’m not really interested in going there, I really want to get into U of M.

@doctarini, I’m attending Scholar’s Day the 15th, what exactly did you do there?

Well they tell you about the school and make you write an essay that will be used to selected individuals for the Presidential scholarship.

I’m very close to someone who does admissions at Michigan and they told me they have been aiming for the 14th. As of right now they are still aiming for the 14th. So unless they realize they don’t have enough time or that it needs to be later for some reason, I think we can expect decisions this Friday.

Can we trust you lauren? Or are you just getting our hopes up :/

You can definitely trust me! By around Tuesday they should know for sure whether or not it will be the 14th. And we can see for ourselves depending on if we get an email notification on Wednesday or Thursday telling us decisions will be sent Friday.

I’m really nervous :frowning: I know someone asked this before but does legacy help? I’m a double legacy, out of state. When I met with an admissions counselor at my school’s college fair, she basically said “you’re in” but I’m not trying to get my hopes up and then get rejected haha.
