** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

@Truust- Based on the sheet, I think Michigan is referring to the average scores for the high school. It’s part of the context of a student’s education. So if the school has really low average scores, then the student who has only decent scores by Michigan’s standards could still be considered very good.

Ohhh yeah, that makes a lot more sense. My bad. Thanks! That confused me a little.

How do they get this data by the way? Do all schools always provide it? I wasn’t aware my school did, and I don’t think they even can seeing as our students do not have to tell the counselors their standardized test scores at all if they don’t want to.

I don’t know for sure, but I remember that I found a part of my school’s website that posts the average SAT/ACT scores. Maybe schools just keep records and always have an average ready, who knows?

With your transcripts your school sends out a school profile of courses offered, avg GPA, SAT/ACT scores etc. for example I only took 2 ap courses in high school, but that’s the max you can take at my school so it won’t hurt me against someone who took 11 or 12 because they know I took the max number allowed. Most schools, including Michigan I assume, asses you based on you within your school and area. It wouldn’t make sense to compare someone from a school in NYC w/ whatever its stats are to someone at a school in like Montana where everyone gets 100s. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

In Michigan everyone takes the ACT in March (test is given at the HS), so they would at least have the stats for that sitting.

So I’m just curious, what do you all want to major in? I plan to do computer science and/or EE.

CS here too!

@BSM, our high school is OOS (actually, I’m studying in a foreign country), and the SAT/ACT is taken at a test center that isn’t our school since our school doesn’t conduct it. So unless students give their stats to the counselor, they don’t really know what we get… so I guess maybe they don’t report to colleges the average SAT/ACT score.

engineering undecided! our counsellor doesn’t know it as well but i think this is a bit related to how many kids apply from the same school, i am an international so there are just one or two people who are applying from my school each year. Thogh if there were 20 students applying from the same school, maybe then they could form an average SAT

Your wrong

No actually, I’m mostly reffering to transfer students. But as far as I know they are in the same time period as freshmen.

Does anybody know how much easier or harder it is to get into the School of Nursing vs LSA? Anybody else applying to the school of nursing besides me?!

Michigangirl22…you’re wrong. I promise, I have more information than you do about admissions.

Michigan may meet 100% need, but they base it on the CSS Profile, not the FAFSA so the EFC ends up much higher than at any other in-state school. When my Barnardgirl was weighing her options, U of M’s FA package was one of the weakest.

It’s a great school, not going to bash it. I’ll be fine with my son going there if he chooses to. But, overall, when schools say they meet 100% of financial need and base it on the CSS Profile, they have a lot of wiggle room to determine what they consider the “need” to be.

“Michigangirl22…your wrong. I promise, I have more information then you do about admissions.”

I’m not sure I’m willing to trust someone saying “your” and “then you”. I’ll take my information from a more educated source.

Do all test scores get reported to the HS? I seem to remember that the HS had to be named on the test application form. You could omit the college and wait to have the scores sent, but I assume that if you list your HS then they will receive your test results.

Like I was saying couple days ago, everybody has to understand that decisions won’t be coming out till at least December 24th. (not a solid confirmation). This is because there are transfer students and other students from many colleges still finishing up their Fall semester which, all of them should be ending by next week. So, for the people whom have pending grades, those marks won’t be ready and go into U of M until next week. U of M requests many final grades for tons of students before they can make a decision on them. Everyone should just calm down and be patient, admissions is working on tons of applications. I think everyone will be accepted that has what they are looking for at U of M. Of course I am speaking about transfer students, but admissions is working on both files at the same time, not just freshmen.

pillagerguy…I just saw my error and could care less about your opinion. I’m typing fast, has nothing to do with my education level. Could care less bud.

ecar52- That may be true for transfer students, but Michigan has sent out decisions this same weekend for the last several years, before transfer students would be finished with their terms. Transfer student decisions do not affect Freshman student decisions. If U of M doesn’t release decisions this weekend for freshman, it will be because of the increased number of EA apps and the Common App issues. They always release freshman EA admission decisions before potential transfer students are finished with their terms.

2016BarnardMom…Yes, I do agree with your comment. Freshmen don’t really have anything to do with transfers. However, I know that both freshmen and transfer student files are looked into at the same time. History does show that decisions should be out around this time.

The transfer and freshman admissions processes are totally different. It doesn’t matter if they have grades yet, for freshmen they look at high school grades.
