As a current freshman at the University of Michigan and a previous terrified senior who checked college confidential every day for updates about when decisions would be released etc. I just wanted to share info from previous years to maybe help ease or guide you on your journey to being accepted to uofm!
I seriously know how awful the wait is but receiving that acceptance is SO worth the wait!

EARLY ACTION:
In 2011 (year 2016) the early action decisions were released Friday December 16th 2011.
In 2012 (year 2017 - my year) the EA decisions were released Friday December 14th 2012 starting at about 3pm Michigan time and ongoing for the next 12-24 hours I believe. I received the decision that I was deferred (but! received the “positive” deferral letter which is a whole other subject) at around 7:30pm.
THIS YEAR I am almost positive they will release the decisions Friday December 13th(ooo friday the 13th lol) seeing as they have released them on this same Friday in previous years. I believe this has to do with the fact that uofm ends classes December 11th, so releasing decisions doesn’t affect anything academically.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL - if you have any questions don’t be afraid to reply to this post!!

I applied to UMich EA and one question it asked which College I applied to. However another question asked preferred admission. What’s the difference or should they have the same answer? Thanks and good luck!

College applied to meaning what do you want to go into. Such as LSA for arts/sciences or engineering of engineering. Preferred admission would be something like Ross Business, which is kinda of a separate thing

Madonna attended UMich once upon a time, so it makes sense. Same with Iggy Pop. It’s strange because the school was only founded in 1817 and they both must have at least been in their 40’s by then. :)

If I applied to the College of Engineering is it relatively easy to switch to Arts and Sciences after a semester? Haha I should probably ask this once I know if i’m accepted :-p

@cutiedida,
If you really want to go to LSA instead of CoE, you should call the adcom to see if they can change that on your application. CoE is much more competitive that your chance for admission is lower. Some students would do that after the EA deferral though.

A “positive” deferral letter is a UofM College Confidential urban legend. For several years the kids have speculated that various letters “mean” various things. A positive deferral letter is one that isn’t a rejection letter. You can search the threads from years past if you are remotely interested.

I know that the decisions are released in several waves, but what are those waves based on? Is it based on when you submitted the app? Because I submitted mine really late (evening of November 1… not proud of this), and I’d hate to receive my decision later than all my friends. So, does anyone know?

Ross decisions come out in March I believe, you indicate that you want to be considered for Ross on the Common App, there is a dropdown box for it.

I also applied pre-admit to Ross.
I believe we get a decision from LSA in December, and then the Ross decision (assuming we’ve been accepted to LSA) along with the Regular Decisions.
