** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

They 100% count Freshman year grades. They are certainly the least important out of all years, but I know for a fact that they do count them.

No one knows for sure about the GPA recalculating. People are saying that various reps/gudiance counselors have said that UofM does recalculate, but an article on the Michigan Daily begs to differ.

Speculation based on how my high school calculates GPAs: I think it’s fair to assume that they do not count art (unless ap studio art) or health classes, but I have no idea about tech. The difference in GPA should be pretty nominal with or without them anyway.

Halflokum
Goodness man, you and that other guy.

Yes they 100% recalculate your gpa.
Freshman through senior year.
If you received high school credits in middle school they don’t go towards the recalculation (I asked)
Every class is treated the same, ap’s are graded the same as gym.

Anything with an a is 4
Anythingn with a b is 3
And so on…

Like this is readily available information.
I’m almost embarrassed that after being confused one way or the other you couldn’t spend 5 minutes to look it up on their website.

@halflokum

Yes they count freshman grades as well as ALL courses.

Yes, any type of A = 4, any type of B = 3, etc.
And no Honors and AP’s have no weighting

Dude, the article from “michigan daily” is from 2009.

Is the general consensus that decisions will be out Dec. 20th?

I realize the answer to this is somewhere within the 86/87 pages of comments, but I’d rather not take the time to read every single one of them…

2009 is when the college process started picking up. They essentially claimed to have made the switch in order to allow a more holistic approach. Why would they point out how little difference the recalculations made if they were going to switch back? I don’t think any of us know for sure…and to be honest there is nothing we can do about it…especially hours before the decisions are released.

they do indeed recalculate. I toured michigan in april, and went to view the u in august… they stated both times that gpas ARE recalculated.

and @harryboughner yes that is the general consensus. however there has people who have argued that they would be out as soon as tomorrow-thursday (which i find very unlikely). I believe that they will begin friday the 20th at the EARLIEST… wouldn’t be surprised if the held off till the 24 with the abundance of apps this year

@potatoo I think that may strictly apply to those who send only weighted GPAs. But I am done worrying about it. As stated in the article, it makes a 0.08 difference on average so it is definitely not something we should be worrying about at this point. Good luck all.

Nope I’m 100% sure they do.

Ask someone that’s gotten in since 2009. They recalculate

@wishfulwolverine i was actually the one to ask the question at view the u as well as verify that it was all gpas…

They recalculate EVERYBODY’s gpa.
100% sure, they stressed it at the school presentation and campus tour

@50cal50cal, it would be helpful if you could provide the link to WHERE in U Mich’s website that info exists. It may exist. But trust me I looked for it before I asked. And by the way, when you can’t find it either man up on it. And if you can, I’ll sincerely apologize for my poor search skills. But I did try before asking.

To the rest of you who have attempted to answer my question, thank you so much for sharing what you do know, and also owning up to what you don’t know.

and @JooHyo, I hope your finding CC boring and adios’ing is code for your getting the meaning of my last paragraph in post 1276. Best of luck to all of you.

@HarryBoughner

Yes that is the general consensus, though only barely. Some people (including myself) believe it can be anytime Monday-Friday. The one thing that makes Friday more likely though is that the Admissions Office will not be allowing walk-in visits from 12-3, which is kind of funky.

@umnr21 Where does it say that there won’t be walk-in visits from 12-3? Is it only that Friday or every friday?

Only this Friday

The walk-in visit closing this Friday is /only/ this Friday, that’s why a special report had to be published on the admissions page. It could be closed for like a holiday party or something, but I’m pretty sure it’s for sending out admissions/a hint from the umich admissions office answering our desperate calls.

sry that Cabooser answered first, my apologies

Thank you for the info! So anxious!

@benh10, that’s impressive! Are you applying to any more selective schools? I’m doing engineering as well, wanted to see if we have any cross-overs except for Umich.

You should have received an e-mail notifying you that you qualified for Early Action.
