@Bangorian Do you by any chance know the percentage of the ED applicants that were accepted last year?
@16sadeghik I’m sorry. I don’t know. My son was accepted EA to the Scholar’s program last year on December 16th but I don’t know the percentage accepted.
Northeastern tries to equalize the acceptance rates for EA and RD. Last year that was 28%. ED is a totally different situation.
I heard from a friend who is a Husky Ambassador that they were told that admissions “was conservative with who they accepted for both ED and EA.” So I’m pretty scared. really wanna go there!!
@ptkid16 @Bangorian So we can assume that all decisions have been made?
I don’t know if they actually said that, that’s just what my friend said they said haha. But I’m guessing… @timpi21
Pretty sure that they are still working on EA decisions.
@timpi21 ED decisions are most likely already made and final. EA decisions are probably not final yet. So scary to think about lol
Guys, when we start finding out our decisions, we should put our stats, where we’re from, if we applied ED/EA, and our admissions decision for future applicants! This thread will be useful for those applying next year.
Do you guys know how and when we will be notified about ED decisions?
^^Please read back on this thread.
Regarding the subject of prestige or should I say relative prestige. The country never mind the world is a big place. Get 1000 miles or so outside of New England and very quickly the local opinion of what colleges and university are considered prestigious can change pretty quickly. You would be surprised how many people on the west coast where I live now for example know next to nothing about Northeastern, Boston College, Bowdoin, Tufts, Bates etc. And when lived in Massachusetts, I had never heard of any of the Claremont consortium schools, Kenyon, Rice, Reed, Washington University, and a long list of others that are considered highly prestigious in other regions while meanwhile, BC and Northeastern barely make the list.
Prestige is a perception that can change over time. When I applied to colleges many years ago, I would have gotten into Stanford. I grew up in New England and do remember thinking at the time that BC was more prestigious than Northeastern. I think it was then but then again, I’m also Doug Flutie’s age so that certainly made BC a more visible school outside of the New England area.
There is a certain presidential candidate who shall remain nameless who likes to make a big deal about the prestige of where he went to business school. He is talking about where he got his undergraduate degree and is riding the pedigree of the graduate business school at the same university. Back in his day, the undergraduate program at that same school was not particularly hard to get into nor particularly prestigious. The undergraduate school certainly is considered prestigious today and the graduate school continues to be. Things change as they have and will continue to change for Northeastern. A prestige pissing race is a waste of time. You are better off focusing on the attributes of a college that would best serve your needs. When it comes to comparisons between BC and NEU, they are pretty darn different so I’m not sure why one would even arm wrestle over it.
when did this turn into a bc vs neu debate lol
Every year someone brings up the topic of prestige, usually in relation to BC or BU. In general I think prospective students put a lot more weight on prestige (or perceived prestige) of undergraduate programs. And what matters is how employers see the schools, not how your high school classmates and teachers see them. In 90% of cases, prestige isn’t going to make a dramatic difference. Certainly, any apparent difference in prestige between northeastern and BC will have essentially zero impact. What matters more is which school is a better fit for your interests, goals, and school culture. They’re different schools, either of which may be better for different students.
Also anyone concerned about how your college looks to employers, I’m pretty sure co-ops will look a lot better than a certain name. Not trying to bash BC at all, but co-ops are the biggest reason I’m applying here and I’m sure it’s the same for a lot of people.
So we’re thinking tomorrow ED decisions will be out?
Based on last year’s ED decisions should come out tomorrow, but no guarantees.
Son’s acceptance after initially being deferred in Nov as an EA applicant was on March 16 or 17-
SuzyQ7, he did not go- Northeastern and BU were tied for his 2nd choices although I was hot for Northeastern for its coop program. after all, isn’t this all about employment after graduation?!!!
He opted for a large reputable state school and he is quite happy 3 months in. having said that, one class is very challenging (professor is mainly interested in writing his book) and son says another class is a joke. Not exactly music to my ears. However, nothing is perfect. As my second child is currently applying I keep reminding: there is no panacea, don’t get stressed over “fit” - you make fit happen, and don’t play the grass is greener game- not a healthy way to live.
Hoping child # 2 will get into a top choice but there are many paths and routes and we are open to choice # 4 & 5 or at least that is what we keep telling ourselves
Again, I admire you all-
Northeastern Admissions just tweeted that they are selecting the Northeastern Scholars right now. Anyone know what that means as far as when ED decisions will come out?
Literally praying they come out tomorrow or I will be so upset
