OFFICIAL Class of 2021 Michigan State University Admissions/Acceptance Thread

Accepted: Pre-Business OOS
1200 SAT
3.75
Competitve highschool
A lot of ECs

I was accepted on November 18, 2016: Pre-Medical
1350 New SAT
3.52 UW GPA
Very competitive highschool, located 10 min from Michigan State
Varsity Wrestler all 3 years, All Conference Academic all 3 years, all conference wrestler 2 of 3 years, volunteer experience at pharmacy, 2 summer jobs

I was accepted on October 28th. My GPA is a 3.35 and the SAT I sent in was a 1270. I am in state and come from one of the top private schools in the state, so most of us get in. Probably won’t attend, but only time will tell

Son got accepted about two weeks ago:

OOS (NC)
Engineering (Undecided)
4.0 UW GPA
5.09 W GPA
33 ACT / 1550 new SAT

we got a letter Saturday saying he got into Honors College with a Professorial Assistantship which comes with an Honors College Tuition Grant (reduces OOS Tuition to In-State rate) + $3K per year for 2 years. Now I thought this could be combined with the $15K per year Honors College National Scholarship, but I was mistaken, so as it stands now MSU isn’t affordable for us. However, the letter also included an invite to the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship weekend so it seems he is in the running for that. our fingers are crossed because a full ride would sure make MSU affordable.

i don’t know about you all but this college stuff has me on the edge of my seat every day.

@Wien2NC I was under the same impression re: honors scholarships. D will ask the regional rep later this week whether additional scholarships besides the ADS scholarships will be awarded later and I’ll report back. Without more money, MSU will be unaffordable for us as well.

@itsgettingreal17

i thought it was just me overlooking the info but your reply confirms to me that it is not clearly spelled out on the website. there is nothing that indicates the scholarships are mutually exclusive. had i known this i would have passed on having him apply and spent the time and $$$ elsewhere. i’m a little frustrated b/c i feel i’ve been bait-and-switched and this whole process is expensive and time-consuming enough without going on wild goose chases b/c important information is not clearly set forth on the college’s own website.

oh well. i guess if he can somehow beat the odds and score one of the big full-ride or full-tuition scholarships, it will have been worth it. still, i would have liked to have accurate information up front.

Just a question from a future applicant, will MSU take the GPA that is on my transcript? My school only reports one GPA and I’m not sure whether its weighted or UW. So will they just take the one on the transcript?

My major is psychology!

Anyone hear back from prenursing??

My application was completed September 1. All of my other stuff was uploaded by mid September.
Everyone I have talked to that is prenursing has not heard back yet, which is unfortunate. @2janner2
