Official Class of 2021 Northeastern University Early Decision/Early Action Discussion

where are you from? @young177

When will west coast results come out?

anyone gotten rejected, it seems that everyone has either gotten in or deferred
also got deferred myself
ACT 33
90.0 g pa
low income indian american
a lot of extracurriculars

There has so far been only one rejection posted - I suspect that it is not representative of the full pool, as college confidential is a self-selecting group.

Denied applicants are less likely to report their results.

many people who were accepted have lower stats than those who were deferred, plus it varies across majors. It’s upsetting to have to wait but if your stats are above average by NU standards then i would expect an acceptance come march.

Why would someone not be accepted EA but be accepted RD with the same stats? Given that you don’t have to accept until May 1st in both cases, why would they defer you?

And people on this thread have said that acceptance rates DO NOT vary by major?

@jjmama to keep acceptance rates low probably

Accepted with $96,000 in scholarship!
SAT 1550/1600
GPA 4.3

@jjmama The university wants to see the total applicant pool, including RD applicants. Many deferred will be accepted, some with merit aid. Others will be offered NU In and some will be denied.

Also when people report weighted GPA’s, are you only including core classes? Not Fitness, Art, CTE, etc. Only Social Studies, English, Math and Science? Otherwise it’s hard to understand how people would have that high of GPA’s through junior year, unless all of their classes were AP. By my calc, if you include all classes, you top out about 4.4

Yes Im only reporting core classes. I took all APs junior year

It’s interesting because at other schools, very few kids deferred from early admission would be accepted RD.

@jjmama Some colleges use deferrals and waitlistings as a soft denial. The student can say “I almost got into X University”. This is not the case with Northeastern.

jjmama, it’s not all stats. I think a lot of applicants go wrong thinking if their stats are tops, they deserve to and will get in. #1 in your class h.s. is one of many thousands of #1 students applying to colleges. Big fish, small pond. Also, colleges want something more than good stats, they want to see evidence someone will fit the school culture, will succeed there. It’s pretty touchy feely and hard to guess at from the outside, but you can see here that kids with similar stats got different outcomes.

Are people finding out via email or the portal?

@jjmama I was completely shocked not to get accepted. My school is one of the most well-respected, difficult in MA. I have lots of EC, lab assistant for Java class, volunteer work, leadership, do 3 sports. I believe my essay was good. Just don’t get it.

Got defered, but at least I’m not the only one
Applied for 6 yr Pharm D program
I got the email around 5:30 and I’m from NJ

Is it every hour?

Still nothing in Ohio
