Official Class of 2021 Northeastern University Early Decision/Early Action Discussion

@ap012199 Yes, all reported scores are using superscores.

@quoderatuhhh do you know if this means that they will defer people who marked N.U.in as preference as well or just people who applied and they prefer to admit N.U.in?

@TomSrOfBoston Yes, I’m aware of this! I flew in for the preview day and they didn’t seem too sure with all the changes, but one of the admissions counselors stated that deferral from EA and then NU.in is the only way for EA applicants to be admitted to NU.in. A few weeks later I emailed my regional admissions counselor and she stated that they were sure of this now.

@Kramer1 To answer your question, here is my counselor’s response from 11/01/16: "In response to your question, students are only admitted into N.U.in at Early DECISION and at Regular Decision. Students that we feel could be a good fit that have applied at Early ACTION are deferred into the RD pool. This is regardless of your response on the application. " Pretty frustrating and doesn’t seem necessary to me, but oh well.

This is a change from past years I see.

last year any ED who got put in NUin meant the ED contract was void and they could back out if they wanted to

@quoderatuhhh Thanks for the info. Sorta sucks because I marked N.U.in as preference and wasn’t looking forward to waiting another 3 months to find out.

Well, here is what my D’s portal says. She applied EA.

"Thank you for applying to Northeastern University. We are looking forward to reviewing your completed application. Please note the following information:

-As an Early Action applicant, you will receive your admissions decision by December 31, 2016.

-Possible decisions include: Admit for fall, Admit to N.U.in Program, Defer to Regular Decision or Deny.

-If applicable, any scholarship and/or honors program information will be released with your decision."

This really makes it seem that they do admit early applicants to N.U.in Program right away rather than deferring them to RD. HOW CONFUSING!!! BLEARGH!

I know it says decisions “by December 31, 2016”, but decisions usually come around mid December like? Probably sometime the week of 12/11?

@class0f2017 According to posters on here, ED decisions usually come out early December and EA decisions come out the week after. The word right now is that ED decisions are coming on Tuesday and EA decisions on the Tuesday after that.

@Bozusaki Thank you!

If Northeastern follows the same pattern as last year, ED decisions will be coming out on Tuesday 12/6. In the past the ED decisions were released starting at 7 PM Eastern time and all will be released within an hour.

If ED decisions come out on 12/6, then EA decisions will likely come out on the following Tuesday 12/13. EA decisions are released sometime after 3 PM or 4 PM Eastern and it will take 6 hours before all are released. EA decisions start in Massachusetts and move out south then west.

Or Northeastern may follow a different pattern this year!

If offered NU In it is a final decision and cannot be changed to September admission on the Boston campus. If offered NU In as an ED applicant it is non-binding but final.

For those not familiar with NU In here is the information:
http://www.northeastern.edu/nuin/
If you go to YouTube and search NU In (country name) you can see videos from students about their experiences in the program.

Good luck!

ED applicants get their decisions tomorrow!! I’m an EA applicant but I’m excited for all you EDers!

Last year some ED students got calls from a professor before decisions came out (I see one got a call in November!). So far we havn’t seen anyone here post about that. The calls were something like “Thank you for your great application”.

Do you know how they notify students tomorrow? By email? Thanks!

What time did students receive the ED notification last year?

@drnancymiller see post above… looks like it was in the evening

@drnancymiller Based on the rhetoric in the admissions status check portal, it seems like the decision will be posted onto your portal. You will receive an email that just says that the portal has your decision. At least that’s what I gather from the information given to us.

Hello all! It was just a year ago that I was accepted as an ED applicant, and I am here at Northeastern now and loving it. I logged back in to wish you all luck and answer questions you may have! I’m a PT major and Husky Ambassador (we give your tours) on campus, so I should be able to answer pretty much anything. Just remember, no matter what your decision is it’ll all work out in the end!

@ptkid16 Would you know difficult it is to come by a merit scholarship? I would love to attend Northeastern, but with out a scholarship it is incredibly out of reach.

@marrtinac it truly varies by case. If you are extremely qualified, then I would generally say you have a good shot at merit aid. They did discontinue University Scholars so they could give out smaller scholarships to more kids, so there could be a potential increase in merit aid this year (mainly my speculation). Their financial aid department is pretty accessible here, so if you do have any questions when your package comes out don’t hesitate to reach out to them. Best of luck!
