Official Class of 2021 Northeastern University Early Decision/Early Action Discussion

Accepted! Congrats to all accepted, good luck to those deferred, and to those rejected - don’t dwell! It’s for the better, even if you don’t know it yet.

Thanks @PengsPhils that is a relief to hear. @TomSrOfBoston talked me off the ledge last night. Scary though! I actually do have another question. Does an honors student have to dorm at IV? I think my very social kid who likes spirit, parties etc is worried about it being isolated from other students or serious all the time. He is like a lot of kids who take their studies seriously but then wants to goof off. Any thoughts about that? Thank you.

@novafan1225 posted this earlier.

@binky17 no worries about social life and IV I totally agree with what @novafan1225 said

Thanks @TomSrOfBoston and @LkL5789 that is very helpful. And Tom, you are right – the aid package will be the same. Whew! Learning curve is steep.

@binky17 Best friends live in IV so I go there all the time. It’s location may make it seem isolated but fear not, it’s a pretty social building. Always group studying and socializing going on in the study room and I’ve heard it is really nice to not have to leave the building (dining hall and workout area) on frigid winter days like today. Nothing to be worried about!

I haven’t committed yet (they haven’t send me my FA information since we sent that in past the deadline), but I am planning on eventually doing that.

Can I sign up for the myNEU Admitted Student Portal. Can I do so without being sure I will attend?

Thank you @ptkid16 !

@marijke

Yes, I believe you can get a myNEU account without committing.

@pharmstudies when you say you got into pharmd program, did you get into bouve college for pharmacy major?

yes!! @spark36

I got deferred with 31 ACT, do you know about when the deferrals get their decision for regular decision? I know it says by April 1st but any specific time before that?

I was accepted and my decision letter is dated November 14, 2008 … not on the letter, but that’s the title of the actual tab on my computer screen. I’m not worried about it, I just think it’s pretty funny that they never changed it lol :slight_smile:

@TomSrOfBoston A quick question, sir. My son was deferred…his only deferral out of his EA schools. (Couldn’t do ED anywhere for a couple of key reasons.) My question is this: does Northeastern hold back any merit aid for RD or do they typically (and understandably) focus most of it ED/EA? Thank you, sir!

@SwimmingDad Based on last years results here on CC there were many deferred ED/EA’s who received merit aid in the RD round.

Is it more difficult to get into the business school? If so, what is the RD acceptance rate?

@nspara There are no acceptance rates by college/school, and Northeastern claims they are equal across majors.

I’d like to hear the two freshmen Religious Studies majors’ opinions on that. :))

But overall, it seems like it’s easier to get into CAMD/CSSH than COS/COE. Just my thoughts.

@whitespace You could probably add CCIS and DMSB to that list of harder than easier as well, but no one can say at what rate. I know CCIS has grown significantly in the past two years, which would be supporting evidence for equal admit rates.

@TomSrOfBoston Hello, I was deferred EA. And was wondering if it is looked down upon to contact my admissions officer and ask about what I can do to improve my application in the regular decision round as well as if I have a chance at regular admission? I live out of state and wanted to visit the campus but I am not allowed to visit unless I get accepted.
