@ptkid16 Kind of a weird question, but would you say that a lot of people you know are from the area? As someone who’s going to attend whatever college I go to from out of state, I’m really paranoid about being alienated because I haven’t lived in Boston for my whole life.
Another weird question, how is food in the dining halls? I had my first dining hall experience this summer when I went to UCF and it was some of the most inhumane food I’ve ever eaten. Wondering if it’s similar at NU.
@Bozusaki not a weird question at all! While there is definitely a notable amount of in-state students, they are not the majority at all. I myself am from out of state, and my best friends are from Ohio and Indiana. There is also a significant international population. Fear not, for you will fit right in being an out of-stater and will make lots of friends from all over.
Our food is great here! It’s dining services is ranked pretty highly across the nation, and I have no complaints. There’s 3 dining halls on campus- International Village, Stetson East and Stetson West. IV is the newest and has a huge selection of foods- sushi, salads, grill, pizza, you name it. It also has a ‘zone 7’ station with safe food for every major food allergen. Stetson East is my personal favorite. There’s a comfort food section, ‘menutainment’ (a make your own section, varies daily- quesadillas, omlettes, pasta bar, etc), pizza, salads, waffles, ice cream, etc etc. I don’t go to Stetson West a lot, but it’s pretty popular for its stir fry.
Then, there’s a bunch of places that take meal swipes, not a dining hall technically since it’s not unlimited, but pretty similar. My personal favorite is Rebecca’s Cafe. Their breakfast is incredible, and they have sandwiches, salads and grill for lunch. You’ll also have husky dollars, and pretty much any other food place on or surrounding campus will take them.
Hope this helped! Don’t be afraid to reach out with more questions!
@binky17 It varies by person and there are definitely no hard numbers to give out. For reference, I was given a generous one with a 4.0 unweighted and 2110 old SAT.
@drnancymiller Folks in this thread have asked before, and NEU doesn’t actually release statistics based on ED/EA/RD applicants. It’s just all lumped together.
My ACT is a 34(right at the 75th percentile). Is that a good score for scholarship consideration or would it be even higher? I’m expecting a lot of need based aid and they claim to meet need, so a scholarship probably isn’t necessary, but just looking at different options.
@class0f2017 yeah I was wondering the same thing. I have the same score as you but I know people who have gotten money with much lower stats. Look at the acceptance thread from last year to get a good idea of what numbers get you merit aid.
The new SAT scores do not follow the college board concordance table (assuming the 2400 scores are correct. Based on the concordance tables a 2010 to 2200 is a 1410 to 1510 rather than the posted 1440 to 1540. How can this be?
@1zogden1 Not sure about the 1440, but the 1540 concords with the ACT 75th percentile of 34. I’m guess they used the ACT score in the concordance table to convert as it comes out higher to make them look better.
I’m sort of new to this whole thread thing, I just recently came across these. I’m applying, but I have never visited Northeastern and am not familiar with Boston (I’m from NYC) and I guess I was just wondering how Northeastern compares to Columbia, like if it’s the same “bubble” within the city type thing, if it’s in a very urban area or a more residential, if the campus is more nyu like etc.
@AnxiousEloise I’ve never visited Columbia but I think that NEU is sort of like a bubble within a city. When I was deep in the campus, it didn’t always feel like I was in the middle of a huge city. However, it’s definitely an urban area, as you’re just a short walk away from being able to hop on the T and get to plenty of different places in Boston.
I don’t think it’s like NYU, though. I’m pretty sure that Boston University is more like that, where the city and the campus are kind of fused together.
