Official Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion Thread

@Viner my second choice major was MCS

Brutal that CMU is releasing so late. I guess it has to do with the huge increase in applicants that probably they were unprepared for.

My son applied to MCS - he wants to major in Math. It does look like Engineering and SCS are more popular though, so hopefully that helps w/ odds :wink: - although that article about the increased applications says MCS up 20% too so probably not :(.

Do you have to specify the major on the app, and does that affect your chances (like are you compared mostly to others who want that same major), or are they really only admitting to the overall school - like would a math person would be evaluated the same as a bio, physics, etc.?

@mathmom71 I think that you are admitted to a school (so SCS, MCS, etc). I think you would be admitted to the school in general (but you may not get your preferred major). As for whether they are evaluated the same, I think thatā€™s a question for the adcom :D. Thereā€™s a reason why SCS has such a low accept rate and some have higher ones

i majored in english at DC

This is the last decision Iā€™m waiting on. Prospects donā€™t look too good. Will see you all on Saturday at 9am. Best of luck.

@MrElonMusk My DD, and I guess alot of others, in the same boat. My D is kind of on losing streak with two waitlists (Wellesley and NEU) and a rejection (UVA) from the last 3 notifications. So prospects are looking bleak for CMU. Ah well, she is in Virginia Tech (we are in state) and they have a very nice program that aligns to her interests. Good luck everyone.

Mathmom71: CMU admits by school. But, you could possibly get accepted to all 3 of your choices. Thatā€™s the way I understood it. (Then, if you want the BXA and you are admitted to 2 of the schools that offer the combination, then you can choose to go that route.)

I applied to Information Systems

My daughter applied to IS, after having been rejected to DC in ED. She had tried DC for their Machine Learning major and so IS as a 2nd shot seemed justifiable. I have not seen any posts of ED rejects re-trying in RD and have no idea of how things work there. The admissions office did send a link for her to submit an updated statement of interest for the new school but the rest of the application was from ED. We are not expecting much ā€¦

@ricecooker420 which article are you referring to?

Who is restlessly waiting for a rejection here? xD

Who is restlessly waiting for a rejection here? xD

@Palaksh we are! :slight_smile: This is my sonā€™s last school, and then this whole process will be over. He was rejected at Rice, Vandy, and ND. So, he just wants to get the rejection so he can focus on where he will be going. He has very good options and one of them has been his #1 since November. Good luck to all!!

@sunparent article?

@Palaksh ME LMAO

I just want a decision so I can figure out where Iā€™m going. I donā€™t want to wait another day and a half or so

Does anyone have an incoming package showing on USPS Informed Delivery? The delivery date is unknown and itā€™s still in ā€œpre-shipmentā€. Could this be the fat letter?

@RichLion was it through an email?

If you login to USPS informed delivery, you can see incoming packages.

Iā€™m confusedā€¦
I was looking at this admissions fact sheet published by CMU https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/media/W1siZiIsIjIwMTcvMDkvMjAvamZiYXJybGtwX0Nhcm5lZ2llX01lbGxvbl9HZW5lcmFsX0ZhY3RfU2hlZXRfU2VwdGVtYmVyXzIwMTcucGRmIl1d/Carnegie%20Mellon%20General_Fact_Sheet%20September%202017.pdf

It states there that there were 35,000 applicants last y
