[] Essays: The dean wrote "PS Great job on your essays!" on my letter, so I'd say... good. (Although I really don't know about all those obnoxious little short answers... by the time I got to the clothing one I was so irritated I only wrote a couple of sentences.)
[] Teacher Recs: I saw some of one of them, and it was amazing (one of the best three writers she's had in her career), and my other teacher told me that after reading what he'd written my schools should "accept me with open arms," so...
[] Counselor Rec: I assume it was good; I didn't see it
[] Hook (if any): Essays, apparently... and I'm from MA and want to study Cinema, which happens to be CMC's smallest major. :-P
[/ul]Location/Person:[list]
[] State or Country: MA
[] School Type: Very competetive public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: ECs (president of Model UN, co-editor in-chief of literary magazine [LOADS of writing, attached two pages of a novel I wrote last summer], photography [fine art and for our paper]), and I also submitted an editorial I wrote for the paper which was a lot about feminism and made me rather unpopular with quite a few people for a while, which my GC also talked about in her rec.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I'm DIFFERENT. I love politics but I don't want to major in it; I want to be a Film Studies major. I also have a lot of leadership, and I'm from MA, and my essays were REALLY unusual. General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Initially CMC was pretty far down on my list because of how specialized it is, but the letter was really nice and I got a note and the campus looks so pretty and NOW I'M ALL CONFLICTED. BLARGH. In any case I'm really excited to be admitted, and congratulations to everybody else who got in!

A little community service too, but mostly paid jobs...which I had to do cuz I needed them. When it came to writing my essays they gave me a lot to write about. [] Essays: 1. Very "Creative" Bio 2. Criticism of Superstardom 3. Climbing a tree as a metaphor for junior year. They were all pretty creative and strong.
[] Teacher Recs: Amazing English teacher (honors), Spanish teacher that I had for two year (honors one year, AP the next year, keep in mind i got a 2 on the AP)
[] Counselor Rec: I knew her for a month because they decided to hire new counselors.
[] Hook (if any): Questbridge? I visited multiple times and met the admissions person for NY and for Questbridge. Multiple emails, really showed interest.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New York
[] School Type: Public Magnet/Specialized Science HS
[] Ethnicity: Pacific Islander
[] Gender: Female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Strength: My interview was really good. My interviewer was a History/IR major and I have a lot of experience in debate. My scores weren't too bad. My essays were really good and I had a lot of merits. Pretty devoted to extra curricular activities, but not involved in too many. I'm pretty diverse, having lived in three different places and showing that in my bio essay.
Weakness: My GPA, definitely. Transcript trends aren't great, but I have a lot of hard classes. Also, not a lot of people get accepted from my school. We're talking one max a year.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I think I was in a different pool because of Questbridge. They really take different things into account, I think. I showed a lot of interest in the school having emailed my interviewer, the director for Questbridge, my admissions representative, the debate coach, and other important administrators MULTIPLE times with really GOOD questions that you couldn't (or probably could on CC) read about elsewhere. I was super invested in letting them remember my name. I showed a genuine interest. My teacher recommendations were probably really good. Also, my interview could have not been better. We weren't only interested in some of the same things, we were both from NY, he knew about my school and how hardcore it is (which probably balanced off some of the transcript), I made him laugh- it was just PERFECT!
[/ul]Other Factors: Income, first generation to go to college (both things super important for Questbridge) General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Congratulations to everyone! During the summer I wanted to go to Columbia because I was bent on going to a "good" school in NY. But CMC is absolutely perfect. The location is great. The profs really care about the kids, from what I hear. The people seem to be really chill, but still competitive and intellectual. The Athaneum is the greatest thing I've ever heard of. It's really small which is good for individualized attention but the 5C means you're still getting a good social life. The application was the most stressful thing (especially for Questbridge because it's different, although no supplement) but it was the most rewarding feeling.
