Interseting how the accepteds didn’t apply fo FA. Not to diminish anyone’s stats because they all look great.

Anne62, I noticed that too.

Now that I think about it, the top 3 applicants at my school all applied for F.A. and none of us got in, even though we have already gotten into better ranked schools, yet the 2 that did get in are both pretty wealthy and thus I am guessing they didn’t apply for F.A. They also were not nearly as qualified as the other applicants. I think it might be partly financial aid but also maybe that they realize our spots would be wasted, and that we wouldn’t attend Colby (I know it was easily noticeable in my supplement that I knew nearly nothing about Colby) in the end. I know the 3 from my school that were rejected wouldn’t have even gone to the admitted students day, including myself, but of the 2 that got in, one is definitely going I think, and the other is really considering it. So I’m glad they got in over me, even if they are less qualified. In the end, we all end up at the right place though. good luck to all!

Hi agoodscreenname.
Thank you for your post and congratulations on your admittance to Wesleyan, a great school. I would like to makes two quick points regarding the Colby admissions process.
First and foremost, financial aid is not taken into account during the decision process. Typically, as our pot of financial aid dwindles, we become need aware, and that usually occurs during the waitlist period.
Secondly, demonstrated interest is also not a factor in the admissions process. We do not credit or discount applicants for showing demonstrated interest or not, and we accept those who we think would be the best fit for Colby, not whether we think Colby is their top choice or not.

Hi Gowhitemules,
I’m wondering: If I was put on the wait list and applied for financial aid, does this lessen my chances of being admitted? (That is, if ANYONE is taken off the wait list)

Pinkleopard,
As I do not know the specifics of your case, I cannot make an accurate statement on your specific question. However, during the waitlist period, we certainly take into account demonstrated interest, so emailing your area’s designated counselor would be a good idea. As for financial aid, it completely depends on who accepts our offers of admission, which has yet to be determined.

And as an additional follow up: Colby has historically taken applicants from the waitlist. Last year we took 8 or so, the year before was higher. It all changes year to year, but historically speaking ,Colby has taken some applicants from the waitlist.

Okay, thanks for the info! :)

In response to agoodscreename,
We are sorry that you did not get into Colby. No need to speculate, make false claims, or put down your classmates though. Congratulations on Wesleyan, go post on that thread instead.

Did you create an account just to post that? And I was not trying to do any of that, I was just adding my 2 cents in regards to what previous people had noticed, I never claimed anything to be true. I’m not upset about being wait listed since I obviously was not a good fit and I am not trying to put anyone down. I congratulate all accepted and that is all. Sorry if I offended anyone.
