Kerry supporters do seem to be generally more pessimistic about their man winning. I've yet to see a Bush supporter say Kerry will win. Maybe for the Kerry folks it's a defense mechanism so they won't be devastated if Bush wins.

Have some faith, people! Kerry's gonna win!

Kerry
Vermont
Kerry (Bush will take FL, but Kerry will still have enough momentum to squeak out a victory at 1 am tomorrow morning. He wins 279-249.)

GuaTe,
We dems are firm members of the REALITY based community. I see Repubs confidence much in the same vein as their president - false.

Kerry
Washington
Kerry

Lizschup--
I know what you mean about the reality-based community--but Bush has a very real chance to win, as does Kerry. My point is, Republicans seem to be better as far as the cheerleading aspect, while Democrats are not always the epitome of optimism.

This confidence element is a very real factor in the actual election--if voters are pumped for their candidate, they're going to be more likely to wait in line for hours on election day to cast their vote.

So in the end, the reluctance on the part of the Democrats to see victory as a sure thing could be a rational reaction to the last election fiasco but also could hurt Kerry's chances.

on the other side of the coin...if dems dont think their candidate will win they might rally together and vote, whereas if the republicans are overconfident they might just figure bush'll win without their vote..

yea i like to overanalyze.

GuaTe,
We fret and worry but I don't think it will hinder voter turnout , at least not in this election. Dems are VERY energized in my state. I know many people who are volunteering for phone calling and door knocking and Dems are really organized this time. Dems are running a much better ground campaign. The only contact we 've gotten from Bush beyond the bash Kerry mailers is recorded messages. My husband talked to a Bush campaigner a few days ago and asked her if she actually believed the stuff she was saying. She told him she was a paid worker.

It's way too close to call or to stay home. I think Kerry will win because of all the stuff I've read about polling. There are many new voters and polling doesn't account for that. I've also seen far more long time Republicans coming out against Bush than vice versa- (Zell Miller doesn't count- what a fool.)
