[] Other stats: By the time I graduate I will have taken 10 APs (5 Psych, 4 USH, 4 Lang, 3 World, 2 Spanish Lang)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought they were pretty good. My common app was about the club I’m a President of and how it relates to my heritage. I thought my Engineering essay was pretty good, although it probably could have been better. It was the one essay I wasn’t completely satisfied with.

[] Teacher Recs: I read one, AP Psychology teacher, and it was really well written and portrayed me well. He said I was one of his top students he ever taught. And he added in something about my baking which I didn’t convey in my application. Although he did a bit of listing, which colleges already know about from the CA. The second was from my math teacher who liked me a great deal but who I know is brutally honest. I didn’t get to read it but I am pretty positive it was a strong letter.
[] Counselor Rec: My counselor doesn’t really know me because he doesn’t take the time to get to know everyone. I’ve visited him over a hundred times in the last four years and he still doesn’t know my name. But hopefully it was good. I gave him a resume and filled out this questionaire for him.

General Comments:
I wrote this all up before I got my decision since I knew if I did it after, and ended up being rejected, I wouldn’t put much effort into it. And I want to help out the kids who look back on this next year. I didn’t realize it didn’t have to be so detailed. LOL.
I have a few awards but only like Summa Cum Laude and Band Student of the Year.
I had an interview. I liked him but he did study what I was planning on studying and he knew a lot about all of my activities which made me nervous, I guess. And he told me he’s interviewed over 150 kids and only 3 have gotten in. Columbia was my dream school and I guess it was a dream for a reason. It just really stings. Congrats to everyone who got in.

General Comments: to anyone in the future, don’t look at the scores and the results of the application and get depressed. I loved columbia and new york city and the rest of it, but it’s all college. I know I’ll go somewhere great (here’s to Gtown!?) and in all likelihood, you will too. Success will come to anyone who works hard I’m at peace, and once, it was an honor to dream.
Congratulations to everyone accepted, good luck to the deferred, and keep your chin up to those rejected. It has been amazing to see so many bright, caring friends in the Columbia ED pool, it really gives me hope for our generation rising to the challenges of the future with intelligence and compassion

[ *] Essays: I reviewed them quite a bit, but unfortunately I noticed (after submission, of course) a typo made in the concluding paragraph due to a last minute adjustment. In all seriousness, I do think that may have been a significant factor in my rejection.
[ *] ECs: Standard but not exception for an applicant to a school of this caliber; mediocre sports participation, musical involvement, science/debate clubs etc.
[ *] Teacher Recs: The teachers liked me of course, one sat down and literally let me watch her write it an make adjustments along the way–I felt like it was relatively strong.
[ *] Counselor Rec: I’m not sure, I didn’t read it. Could have been a rant of how intolerable I was, for all I know

I’m just another applicant. This really sucks being deferred. I think I will keep Columbia as my number one choice, but, boy, am I upset. I know most everyone accepted deserves it. Truth is, there are too many applicants. It hurts to be at the bottom end of that process. I was going to say this whether I got accepted or not: not getting in isn’t the end of the world. Over the past couple of weeks ive really bonded with the CC community and ive seen just how talented you guys are. The reason I was freaking out so bad was because I knew I was competing against applicants like you guys. I know you guys will get far in life and end up at a college you will be happy at. All the best and good luck!

General Comments: Best christmas present I’ve ever received. I basically gave up after horrendous physics sat mark. but i’d like to thank everyone on cc to help me make it through this process. My weakness was probably my physics mark and the fact that i don’t have any major awards or any amazing ECS. but i felt my application felt REAL, and i was passionate in my essays. congrats to all those accepted! and to those not, remember that this only means you’ve opened up the door to so many more opportunities!
