[/ul]Reflection[list]
[] Strengths: Pretty good SATs, URM, great interview, good essay and short answers
[] Weaknesses: Junior year GPA, SAT II’s, Level of my extracurriculars.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My junior year GPA was probably my biggest weakness. I got an inordinate number of B’s compared to my Sophomore and Freshman years so the downward spike sucked. The only person to get in from my school is an internationally ranked fencer that has lower stats than me and the other applicants
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Not sure yet. I’ve only applied to Rutgers and Columbia. I’ve got some work to do.

Deferred also. I’m very surprised halfrican didn’t get in though considering you’re legacy and URM, so it goes to show how competetive it must have been this year with all of these deferrals and rejections.

rejected.

680cr, 740m, 790wr, 12e
800math ii,740fr–not native…asian female, in fact.
apped for fin-aid

im kind of happy!! i dunno. it sucks that i have to do 10 more supplemental essays, but i kind of felt disgusted by somethings at columbia–especially by how rude some student’s are on this forum. just didn’t want columbia to change me for the worse.

CONGRATS TO THE…3?..PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED SO FAR!!!

[] Strengths: SAT I, SAT II, GPA
[] Weaknesses: No community service
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Don’t really know why. I did everything I possibly could. Perhaps not enough extracurricular, but if that’s how Columbia judged I’m really surprised. It was probably the application for financial aid that screwed me over.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/li][/ul]General Comments:

Salty, Columbia rejects more people than any other early pool. If you are deferred then you have a much higher chance of getting in compared to elsewhere. Also, you have great stats. Don’t be too pessimistic.

Rejected (legacy). Whatever.
I’ll post my stats when the site decides to function.

I wish everyone else luck!

it’s not really the deferral that bothers me. it’s everything else i have to do because of it. plus i bet my dad is happy i got deferred

I gave it a shot and I can’t say anything about it. Sure it sucked to be rejected, but hey, it’s Columbia. It’s tough as **** to get into, so I’m not too down.

Congratulations to those who got in. For those deferred: “Columbia made a mistake. Hopefully they will correct it later.”-Text from my friend, made me feel a little better.

how did they defer so many people?

Rejected

Don’t be to down in the water guys…(or library).

Just move on…I’m not sure how strong you guys are mentally (not academically) but i hope a good portion of you are …i actually posted a note on facebook of my rejection letter and i’m having a pretty good time cracking up here.

So just try to tell you have to tell and go on to the next best thing!

I mean, i bet if you see the other applications that were rejected, you’ll be shocked yourself.

It’s all a chance…and unfortunately the probability wasn’t in your…no…OUR favor.

Next Stop: NYU forum!

Wow so many deferred. My dad has theory on my deferral despite my hooks. My mom actually works for Columbia’s department of medicine and one of her job perks is that, should I be accepted to Columbia, the tuition would be free. He believes I was deferred because, even if I was accepted to other schools, I would still choose them for the financial benefits. So they’re free to recruit more hook-students like athletes and other URM’s early and they can still take me later. Any thoughts on this? Or maybe we’re both just desperate to justify this situation…
