They require 2 subject tests as part of the application for people who take the SAT

Haha dang for a second you had me doubting myself, but no they specifically state if you submit the ACT you are NOT required to submit the subject tests, although you may.

@franstar I took the sats, but opted out of taking the subject tests, because I felt my school doesn’t prepare us enough for them (coming from my experience with the ap tests -_-) so I took the act and sent that as my official test report… I don’t think us taking the act versus the sat+subject tests should hinder admission at all. I’ve seen people get in with either test set so…

Awesome thanks! I mean I don’t believe I have much of a chance anyway haha but I was curious, thank you. And good luck.

@franstar… I did the same exact thing. I did take my subject test but the scores were not amazing, so just sent them my act score instead. I just hope that admission officers don’t underestimate my abilities because I didn’t send subject tests.

Solid haha I’m not alone. I mean I applied for a major in neuroscience and behavior so they might have liked science based subject tests but I have a lot of EC’s tied to the sciences and that area so I hope I’ll be ok?

do you guys think that the major you pick really affects anything? no matter what you choose, the majority of students change their major anyway, so it doesn’t seem like it should hold much weight in the admissions process

I completely agree, I just meant that they might have wanted me to demonstrate interest in it haha. But hopefully my EC’s should do that for me I’m unsure

See I’m confused about that too! I said I wanted to do Biomedical Engineering (seas) but now I’m thinking about medicine (cc)… Idk what to do, can I change it if I do happen to get in? (fingers crossed)

@Toma, if you want to change you’d have to reapply as a transfer student

I don’t it matters as much, what you put for your intended major, I think that Columbia just likes kids with interest and some passion, which is why the ECs matter. But I don’t think they expect all of their seniors to graduate in the major they chose 5 years before they even actually started college.

I think what @hobbesette said about switching those two majors is right though. 'Cause you aren’t just changing majors anymore, you’re switching schools

@Hobbesette… See that’s what I thought, but it’s also a hassle I don’t want to get myself into.

Toma, majoring in BME generally prepares kids very well for med school. Little known fact: BMEs have the highest average MCAT scores of all college majors.

Random question but what are some of your guys EC’s that you’re proud of?

If I wanted to go to medical school, then I wanted to major in Psychology. Haha idk why I’m even thinking about this… I didn’t even get in yet! Lol

Less than 100 hours until the decision release.

@colum2017 I hope so… When are they going to give confirmation this is so annoying!!!

Oh my god I cannot even

^^oh god i keep forgetting that dec 6 isn’t even official yet. i’m torn between anxiety about the decision, and anxiety that it won’t actually come out next week…
