Okay guys (and gals). All the other early decision ivy league threads are booming at this point, and we have pretty much nothing. So let's get this thread started! What day do you think decision day will be? I'm hoping it's sometime around Dec. 9-12th ish.

I thought Columbia stated that it will be December 15th. Isn’t it regulated by the Ivy League?

The latest they let you know by is December 15th! These past few years, Columbia has released the decisions as early as Dec. 9th (last year). It’s not an Ivy League thing. Most, if not all, of the other Ivies usually release their decisions at least a few days earlier than the 15th.

Hey everyone! Less than a month until decision day… Good luck to all of us :)

Ahhhhh I hate the waiting period. I NEED to know already! I’m also hoping for around Dec 8-9.

I’m definitely hoping to hear back as early as possible too. December 12th sounds like a pretty fair guess on the date. I’m sure these numbers will also be released in the coming days, but what do you think the ED application statistics will look like this year? Do you think the Harvard/Princeton reinstatement of EA drew potential Columbia EDers away? Last year the number of ED applicants was upwards of 3000 (and some odd hundred that I don’t remember).

Hmm well some results came out for other schools: [The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - NYTimes.com](The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - The New York Times)

Based on this, I’d say that it’s going to stay relatively the same as it was last year. It might be dozens more or dozens less but nothing extremely significant.

What do you guys think about doing the pledge thing that Yale does? It’s an interesting idea here is a link to the Yale forum’s description.

jackB427 do you think the number of applicants would affect the early admission rates? it’s weird columbia still hasn’t released their stats yet because apparently lots of schools already did…

Do we find out prior to decision date when decision date will actually be? Or will we get an email out of the blue that’ll make our hearts stop?

has anyone had an interview yet?

My friend had a interview before the ED deadline, he said he got it in two weeks. I assume he missed the rush? I don’t know, but I haven’t gotten mine yet.

Yeah the application number miiight affect the early acceptance rate slightly but not much. As of now, there are almost 200 less early apps this year than last year. And I had my interview last Tuesday; it was pretty chillmore like a conversation really. Hmmm I believe they send you an email like a week or so before the date they release decisions that state the day and time you check the website for your decision. I think they sometimes change the date and time, but then you’ll just get some more updates from then. But no. They won’t send you an emailing stopping your heart telling you to check right then :P.

Interviews are completely based on alumni availability. You’re likely to be contacted sooner if the area you live in is a) densely populated by Columbia alumni or b) few students in your area applied ED. Since I live in an area where the number of students applying ED is presumably low, I received an email from my interviewer days after submitting my application (Nov. 2 or 3). To the best of my understanding, there’s some database alumni interviewers log into where they select applicants to interview randomly and one-by-one. I wouldn’t be concerned if you haven’t been contacted yet, most ED applicants get interviews. As far as the number of applications, JackB427, where’d you here about 200 less? And then, the admission decision posting pledge… sounds kind of lame to me. Those who will post, will post. There’s a response bias in all things…

Cornell ED’s are released on December 8th this year. That means Columbia will probably be December 8 too.

I had an interview a couple of days ago…it was really chill and the guy was awesome. He didn’t ask many hard questions except, “What do you want the admissions board to know about you that doesn’t come across on your application.” But after that question was answered we just talked about Columbia and the things I should do/not do when I get there. And we talked a lot about how his years swimming for Columbia were since I am a being recruited to Columbia for rowing.

mustangman, here’s the link that says apps are down: [The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - NYTimes.com](The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - The New York Times)

It seems apps were down for Stanford and U Penn, too! And as for the pledge, I like the idea. A lot of the time mostly students who are accepted will post their profiles, and that’s not as helpful. If there is a list of students who pledge, you get a more accurate pool (even if the pool might be small). It would just suck if people who pledged didn’t post their results, though :P.

Well the pledge post was started by Columbiafan so you should join it if you haven’t already.

I’m constantly checking my calls for an interview since I live in a pretty large/affluent Columbia-friendly suburb near Chicago, so I hope @mustangman is right and there are some alums still available in my area! I heard interviews are mostly given to borderline accept/defer applicants, though?

December 8 seems scarily close. I was under the impression they just all came out the 15th.

Well, I definitely don’t think they only give candidates that are on the border of accept/defer interviews because I have a Likely Letter to Columbia and I still got an interview. I’m pretty sure they give interviews to everyone who is in the ballpark for acceptance, giving priority to those candidates who got their application in earlier and who pass the initial weeding out of weak candidates. Then after that I think it just becomes about alumnae availability but they go to great lengths to try and give everyone an interview. The interviews are due by November 31st and Columbia Adcoms claim that the interview is as important as the other components of the application according the alumnus who interviewed me and who has been interviewing for the past 18 years.
