Official Columbia University Early Decision 2016 Thread

any hispanics applying ED to columbia\ anyone applying for a biology major or pre-med?

I’m not Hispanic, nor am I a potential biology major. However, I’m applying as an English major and I’d like to do the additional concentration in business. What are everyone else’s plans?

I’m not hispanic, but I applied as a biochemistry major with neuroscience and biology as my second and third choices; not pre-med though.

Oh look, someone else is online too! Hi, Jack!

Decisions are so close…

I’m definitely starting to freak out. Think they’ll send the first e-mail (not the heart-stopping one, the one that alerts us as to when we’ll get the heart-stopping one) on Friday or Saturday? I’m just going off the November 10th - December 2nd interval for checking our documents.

Also, sidenote, I’m a Hispanic girl from Texas who’s applying as a Political Science major with a possible minor in English or Psychology, and I went to the HSP at Columbia this past summer.

I can’t believe we’re almost there!

I think I’m still a little blurry on how the admissions decision is released. Is it released via email or do we have to log into the Columbia account thing to get it?

I’m not sure if it’s the same for general admission, but for the HSP Columbia sent an e-mail that said “The Admissions Committee has completed its review of your application, and a decision has been made. Please revisit the online application system to view the result.” and had a link to the online system.

So I’m thinking it’s probably the latter.

Okay, well, at least I know what to expect now. I think I’ve heard they’re supposed to come out at 5PM EST? Do you happen to know if that’s a thing?

I’m applying ED too. I’m Indian and from Pennsylvania and I’m applying for Mathematics-Computer Science.
I’m guessing that Columbia’s decisions will be given later than usual this year because the ED deadline was pushed back by 3 days.

i forgot to say- i am hispanic from MD looking to major in biology, anthropology or urban studies and i am premed. good luck to all of you!

@Panther: Yeah, I think I actually wouldn’t mind if it came on the 15th, just because I’d only have one day of people going “Oh, you were rejected/deferred?” before break.

Edit: Or, best case scenario, I also don’t want it to be like a super big thing like “OMG, YOU GOT INTO AN IVY LEAGUE!!” or something.

Nor am I hispanic, but I applied as a Spanish major :)

Also not Hispanic. I applied for Operations Research: Financial engineering as my first choice. Second choice is Biomedical Engineering. Third choice is Engineering Management systems.

LSDKFJSLDJF I’m so nervous for results. Just thinking about them is making my heart race =____=

I’m trying to be as passive about it as possible, like it’s no big deal, so I’m not stressed out. I’m gonna see if I can read my decision letter like a regular email, no emotion (happy or sad). That’ll be fun haha…

Hi! I am from India, my stats are SAT 1 (Maths 670, CR 760,CW 790, total 2220), SAT 2 not so good: English Literature 750, Maths II is 660.
EC fairly good (editor for the last two years, MUN, Equestrian, active/lead participation in environment conservation activities)
Class rank top 3
My Maths sucks
Applies ED and my first choice is Economics, don’t need FA
Not sure where I would stand, preparing my backup applications.
Feeling good to join you guys.

Your high scores in Writing, Critical Reading, and English literature will outshine your low math considering you’re an international applicant from a country that doesnt primarily speak English.

Thanks a lot Columbiafan. The stress levels are headed North, I guess we need to learn to cope up with it.

hi gaiz! im a student from shanghai and i applied ed to columbia. i have a low gpa but good sat :frowning: i really hope columbia sees some kind of potential from me

What else have you got that will make you stand out?

well, i just found out that fudan university/hs, one of the top 3 schools in china wants to do a joint concert with our charity orchestra   we recruited from a bunch of differnet schools around here and we tried to make it the best youth orchestra in shanghai but we never expected it to go this far :stuck_out_tongue: idk how columbia will see it haha but im freaking excited about it.

how bout you man? sigh decisions are so close… i almost wish they could postpone them till like winter break
