I am an international applicant too.
(from India)
I thought I was crazy, applying to three Ivies, but turns out a lot of you people are like me.
I want to go into computer science with a focus on computer graphics and the DMD program at Penn is the best !!
Although, after Upenn, the university I want to go to most is Columbia. They’ve done quite a lot of research in my field.
I’ve heard that Columbia does not place a lot of emphasis on undergraduate education. Is that true?
It’d be great if someone knows… ( and answers)…

^
Well, unfortunately most of us are applicants that have not been to Columbia as of yet, so we’re not in the right position to answer that.
All I can say is that there are many more graduate students than undergrads at Columbia, but they stay on separate campuses. Therefore there are some people taking care of undergrads and some taking care of grads.

Dartmouth and Princeton have the most emphasis on undergraduates out of all the Ivies. This is from US World&Report I think. They are also the best and the second best undergraduate schools in the U.S. in that order.

^
Is it because Dartmouth is a smaller school? Apparently it almost has a LAC feel. I have recently been regretting not having applied bc it’s been sounding better and better

Unlike other Ivies, Dartmouth has far more undergraduates than graduates, thus the focus is generally on the undergraduates. The official name for Dartmouth is also Dartmouth COLLEGE and not university, so that testifies to their philosophy of intense undergraduate focus.

Princeton also doesn’t have almost 1:1 undergrad:grad student ratio that almost all the other Ivies have, having more undergraduates than graduates, so I guess that’s why they’re ranked so high in undergraduate ranking.

I kind of regret not applying to Princeton… I think I would have loved it there since I have heard it’s the “least” liberal Ivy out there (I don’t know if this claim is legitimate). Oh well. Fingers crossed for an acceptance(s) from one or more Ivies that I applied to!

^
I also contemplated applying to Princeton for a while. There were some pros and cons such as
Cons: the length of the supplement and the suburban location
Pros: education (obviously), gorgeous building, strong sciences (I will be a STEM major)

Have you all visited the school before?
Because I know that I was going to apply anyway but when I visited, I really fell in love with the school and envisioned myself there for the first time.

Yes, I visited most of the schools I’m applying to including Columbia. I was blown away by the Columbia campus, because unlike NYU, which one couldn’t tell where the campus started and ended, Columbia had a clearly bounded campus amidst a thriving city. I like that Columbia has a “secluded” feel while being located in the greatest city in the world!

hey! so i applied to columbia (ignore my username haha cuz it was RD) and i was wondering, do you guys know how we will hear back? is it by email? by letter? check the website? also, when should we be hearing back?! THANKS!
