Does anyone know???

ok i am really confused by the Common App and I hope someone can please answer these questions (and my last one...)
--What kind of stuff should go in the extra info. session? Is it a good idea to put AP scores? even if you already said you were an ap scholar or whatever
--Do you need to put down # of hours volunteered under community service? i volunteered a lot more hours over the years than i actually recorded...lol i guess I'm kind of screwed on that one

Where do we write leadership type undertakings, ex. running a blood drive

nrjg:

You can put your AP scores if you want. Normally, if colleges care about them, they'll ask on the supplement. But if they're extraordinary, it couldn't hurt to list them.

Yes... doesn't it ask how many hours you volunteered? If it asks, write it down. I think they'd rather have a rough estimate than nothing at all.

Rence:

You could write it under extracurriculars, extra information, or write about it in your essay if it is that important to you. I led this campaign to the school board about something in my school and I wrote it under extra information.

Under "Work Experience," can it include non-paid jobs? For example, can doing scientific research at a university be listed under there? Or should somewhere else?

^That would be considered an extra-curr activity.

***?
Do we really have to give our middle names and im addresses?

IM - no.
Middle names - why not?

It says under the EC section, which I'm having a tough time figuring out how to organize--it's weird to suddenly be quantifying my commitments to stuff--"fill this out even if you're going to attach a resume" or something like that. Do people attach resumes in general? Do colleges want or not want to see that?

Also--"special skills"? Is this something other than Additional Information, or if not, where is it??

If my dad has more than 2 college degrees, a) should I put that down, and b) where should I put it?

For the essay, is there a way to write on essay for one school but use a different one for the other schools? Or is that completely impossible.

Not possible, frutiaspice. That would undermine the reasoning behind the commonapp.

^^ if you are using the common app, the application is locked after you submit your first application. I wonder if they really thought that new policy through?

Anyway, if a college wants an essay aimed at them, they will have a supplement with additional essays. I think if they do not have the supplement, then they are saying they really dont care that much. Most of the selective colleges do have the supplements (or will if CA ever puts them all on line).

So If I do early action at one school who uses the common application, there's no way for me to change anything (add awards, edit essay) after I submit that one application?

I have one other question: For the ethnicity part of the application. If you moved here from Asia but you're not a citizen yet (though you feel americanized), would you put asian or asian american? I didn't notice the distinction before.

Well, you could always create two accounts on commonapp.org....

frutiaspice,

For your ethnicity questions, I don't think it truly matters to the colleges you are applying to. Whatever pros and cons come with being of Asian descent at a school will come whether Asian American or just Asian. If you are applying as an International Student, I would put Asian, duh. If you are applying otherwise, Asian American, especially if you feel americanized.

or u could send one copy by mail....

When should most colleges' required supplements (not the optional arts ones or the ED ones) be up on the CommonApp website? Late August?

Also, we have to print out the PDFs and mail them to the colleges, correct? It seems to me that most of them are only in PDF form.

(Sorry if this has already been posted; I searched the thread but didn't find anything.)

no, when ur done with ur app, u click submit and it sends it online. no paperwork needed except for teacher recs and school report stuff
