If the additional information is extremely long, should i just include it on my resume while expanding on the seven i chose under EC?

Am I allowed to print one of each of the school forms that I need and then make the necessary copies needed?
[/quote]

yes. for example with the teacher evaluation form, the teacher is supposed to write it, and then photocopy the number of sheets you need, and mail them to the schools.

sorry if these questions have been answered, but here they are:

1) how formal is the 150 word essay supposed to be? I don't quite understand what they're asking for.
2) My common app essay is on racism and discrimination, but i need to write an essay for the Yale supplement...would it be bad if i write about an influential book i've read (Black Like Me), which is along the same lines?
3) for the first and second semester courses, what if i'm taking a prerequisite computer class first semester (Visual Basic) and Honors Programming in Java second semester (should i list them alongside each other or underneath?)
4) i transferred schools second semester junior year, so my extra-curriculars are disproportionately split up...ex) i was in recruitment team at my other school which is considered student ambassador here...should i list this as one???

Does it make sense to put an activity on the application if it was 2 hours "per week" for "26" weeks per year?

To post # 30...summer schools is right after educational data and b4 test info..

I have another question... if the essay(s) on both the common app and supplement app are looked at, rewritten, rechecked 100 times & polished to the max, and the essay on the SAT isnt as up to par as on the apps.will it make a difference? Will it set up a red flag as they say?

Thanks in advance!

no, they dont really look at the sat essay. they can if they want to, but they generally spend the time that they have with your app doing more important things than reading your sat essay. and even if they did, they realize that you only have 25 minutes to write the sat essay and that you probably worked a lot harder on your common app essay.

Sammy2,

"The officers accept that student essays are often heavily edited and adapted for multiple applications. But if an essay seems too polished, they'll often compare the writing with that in other parts of the application, and even to a student's verbal SAT score. "

I don't know if this helps you out at all. =/

Can someone give a sample as to how long the essays should be? (just a sample)

Thanks, just what I was looking for. I just have to make sure that it is polished.. but still stay true to myself. I am doing ED and I never dreamed it was going to be as difficult as it is. Common app has a lot to it....

My questions:

1) I'm an actor and I'm really passionate about it. The problem is that it's very difficult to list hrs/wk and wks/yr because it depends on auditions, callbacks, filming, etc. It's very hard to make an estimate on that. How should I list the hours and weeks?

2) Also, if I'm really passionate about it, would it be a good choice to write the essay on acting? I'm a good student (4.0 UnweighedGPA) with hard classes, many ECs, etc. but I don't know if dedicating an entire essay on this would be... foolish? Maybe the adcoms won't take me seriously or something but I think that it's a unique and pretty interesting topic. Any suggestions/comments?

3) I played chess since grade 1. I've won over 10 awards and trophies and even a national award that qualified me for an international tournament. I'll include chess as an EC along with the national award recognition on my CommonApp but when I make a resume and include all the awards that I've won in my younger years, would it be disadvantageous when adcoms see that I haven't continued playing in tournaments during high school?

Another question:

If I select a certain major, eg. education or something, and some schools on my Commonapp list don't have it, would that lower my chances at those schools? I'm actually undecided when it comes to a major but on the CA it says "possible major concentration."

I too would like an idea of how long the Common App essay should be.

The Princeton supplement cleverly suggests by saying "In addition to the 500-word essay you have written for the Common Application..."

Good observation crl529.

But is an essay 629 words long and 3882 characters long, acceptable?

"If I select a certain major, eg. education or something, and some schools on my Common app list don't have it, would that lower my chances at those schools?"

I was wondering about this too...anyone know how to get around this? For example, not all schools I’m applying to have my major, thus I’m doing something similar (though it has a different name) at the other schools. So what do I put?

Also, I'm taking a third SAT II in December, but only for Princeton (it's the only one of my schools that requires 3). I've already sent test scores to my other schools with just two SAT IIs. But on the testing section of the Common App, they ask us to identify tests that "will be taken". None of my schools but Princeton will be seeing the third test, so what do I do here? Leave it out? Or then will Princeton see I only have 2 tests and discard my application…

dandelion27, i would put your expected SAT II on their, don't leave it out.
blockbuster, 629 is fine. I've seen essays in the 900s, although you better have a good reason for making it that long. but 600s are completely reasonable.
that intended major question is a good question. I don't have that problem, and nor do I have an answer. Contact the Common App people or search through their FAQ. They're pretty good about answering questions.

i know that you cant change the app once u submit it for like other colleges, but i was wondering, if i want to just send the act to some schools, can i just not send them the official score report for the sat even tho they will see sat II results that i wrote on the common app? will they just ignore that from the app if they don't have the official report from collegeboard and just have the official report from act?

Could someone please clarify the "All in one institution" thing? It says commonapp and supplement be submitted at the same time. Does that include teacher recommendation letters too? Or can my teacher mail the letter separately by his or her self?

I thought teacher recs HAD to be sent separately??

Do you have to fill out Part II (the supplement) if you do the common app? Totaling the number of essays to two and the number of teacher recommendations to two as well?

When you choose "choose your own topic"...Do you have to come up with your own prompt?

Also, should you have a title for your essay?
