OFFICIAL Common Application Questions Thread

im not sure if i put down the right credit value for senior year gym on the common app. i already sent my app to my ed college..if i find out i put the wrong credit value..what do i do? do i call up the early decision college? also since the common app is locked..how can i fix the credit value for my regular decision schools?

I don't think it will matter. You sent your transcript in and it shows the right value there. If you had a typo on a trivial thing like that on your app, they won't count it against you.

Where would my d put a professional acting involvement that has spanned from age 6 to the present? That would be the closest thing she would have to a 'hook' so she really wants to emphasize it. Would she just send a separate resume for that? Also, her junior year grades dropped by .3 because of having mono from the spring of sophomore year til the fall of senior year. (She had fatigue, swollen liver and spleen--multiple CAT scans, etc--and several recurrences of the active infection diagnosed by blood tests.) She doesn't want to appear to be a whiner, so how should she add this info, if at all? She plans to wait until she has at least one senior report card to send with her transcript to show her raised grades. Any other ideas?

Yeah, send an arts resume for it and/or explain it in the additional info section.

Maybe ask her college/guidance counselor to mention it in their rec letter?

Thanks, Snowia!

What's the difference between Submitted and Downloaded on the Common App status for a school?

My Application says Downlaoded and my Supplement says submitted =S

Submit means you turn in the application. It'll be sent to the school. Download means you...well, download the form. Save it to your computer. Forms that have to be downloaded have to be printed out, filled out, and mailed to the school. You can't send them online.

I have the same thing as Eloquence. i think downloaded means it has been received and printed out by the college. im assuming the supplement isnt downloaded yet because they havent gotten around to it.

That's what I thought too radyland, I'm just not fully sure!

And Xenon, I doubt that because I didn't download any of the forms =/

I'm assuming you're talking about the School Forms, right? Those you print out and send via snail mail.

no not the school forms, the status of your application once you submit it. it shows up in green either submitted or downloaded

EDIT:
Rileydog cleared this up in another thread. he said:

"Is it an "all-in-1" institution? I had the same question and found an answer in the help section. It stated that both are downloaded at the same time but that only the application will say downloaded if it is an "all-in-1" institution. If you look at your list of colleges on the commonapp, an asterisk identifies the "all-in-1" institutions. Good luck to you!"

uhh no, they download the supplement at diff times as shown by yale on mine

Well the help section on the commonapp site confirms Rileydog's assertion:

"As an All-In-1 school, when your application is downloaded by the school, the supplement is also downloaded even though the application does not reflect "downloaded" under the supplement."

So maybe yours is a special case bigreddawgie

Ah that clears me up rady, my school is All-In-1 :)

I just discovered that I forgot to notify that I am an Early Decision Applicant...I should notify that at the first page, right? So, what can I do now?????????????????

BTW,will the school see my online application after they receive the package?(I mean transcript.recommendation letter..etc)?
Because I sent them a cover letter about my delay SAT instead of typing that in the addtional information....

cjenny - You should contact admissions right away and let them know. Also, make sure you submit the early decision agreement right away to make it official. The school is sent your online application after you submit it, either electronically or paper copy, usually within a day or two.

cjenny...don't you do that on ur supplement and when you send your application?

when i print previewed, there was nothing on my application that stated i was ea, but i checked early action on my college list and applied under that

On the page that lists your college selections, there is a checkbox to indicate ED. That should be checked before submitting the application. When you check that box, it will update you checkist page with the ED date. Even after submitting ED, the ED items on the first page of the applicant's copy are not filled in. However, there should be a link to the early decision agreement on the supplements page.

Hey guys, my application for this college is due December 1st and they require the common app. So my problem is"

1) Do i have to finish the common app before that and submit it?
Or
Can I submit the common app to them, and then have a common app (with essays that i get more time to work on) for the regular January 1st.

Under the Standardized Tests Section, I put "Mathematics Level 1C" when I took the "Mathematics Level 1" SAT Subject Test. My Common App is already locked. Does this make a difference? Or is it 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another?
