I don’t see what’s wrong with it though…

I apologize for copying that title, but I really liked it and was in the same situation. I am on the verge of finishing up my Common Application, but have some concerns. I have a plenty of EC’s to post, but I feel I have not adequately listed them or have not posted them all. They’re not that great, but I have more than 7 activities that I really want to put there (and I have some questions too)

1) Does it really matter about the order the activities are in?
2) Should I really extend my activities into the additional writing space provided in the Writing Sample section?
3) What would you write for the additional writing sample section? I was going to write about my mom’s cancer but I don’t know on what grounds I will write it. I wonder if I should write about it at all?
4) I play multiple instruments - flute, piccolo, and tenor sax - should I put them all down in the Musical Instruments section (I practice about 7 hours a week, almost every week of the year)? How should I do it?
5) My December ACT scores haven’t come out yet. Do I leave the scores blank? The same cores for my SAT II’s which I will take on January 26. Should I leave predicted scores or blanks?

I’m pretty much freaked out when it comes down to the last day or two of deadlines.

i have these questions too, anybody out there wanna answer, it would be really helpful, and you’re not the only one freaking out, I think I gonna explode

I absolutely would, especially if your teacher liked it. Listen, the adcom people don’t have to read something if they don’t want to, but if you are in the middle zone, it may help set you apart…

So when’s your CommonApp due? Mine is due in less than 6 hours (local time) while more than 12 hours left if counted as U.S. timezone. Ergh.. this is nerve-wracking!

jkjkjkj, can you add me on MSN? it’s my (username)@hotmail

1) Yes, very important to put the EC’s that are the most important to you at the top. (Preferably, if you talk about an EC in an essay, then make sure that one is somewhere at the top of list) The colleges are trying to identify YOUR passions by looking at what’s most important to you.

I can’t give a valid answer to the other questions. Hopefully someone else will pick it up :)

1) Yes, it matters, as opqpop said. Put them in order of importance to you.

2) It depends. Do you feel you need to? Are there aspects of your activities that didn’t fit into the space? Perhaps events involving them, or goals, or whatever.

3) I believe that section isn’t quite additional writing, but additional info. As such, you shouldn’t treat it as an essay. If you wanted to provide information on your mother’s cancer, you would do it in more of a factual way. It’s adversity, so it would be a good idea to include it if it affected your schooling/life.

4) I would say to include them all, along with your involvement, but I’m not too familiar with the section itself, so I’ll let someone else chime in on how to do it.

5) Do not put predicted scores. Put the date that’s planned (just leave the scores blank).

Another quick question: It’s 7:00 PM here in +7 GMT (Asia). The deadline is 11:59:59 PM (Dec 31) but in US time. Can I send it in the morning, as long as it’s before 12 midnight in the US?

im planning to use the Us eastern time. Im +8 GMT

What’s the time zone of the US eastern time?

It’s too long. Admissions counselors don’t want to read another essay that is twice as long as the required essay that they actually ask for, and they very well may decide not to read it.

Cut it down to its bare bones.

So i was wondering, if the deadline says the first, does everything have to be submitted by the 31st? If i finish supplements tomorrow and submit on the first will it be an issue?

So if the deadline is the first does it have to be submitted before the end of the 31st?

So far as test scores you have not received, I would list the test and date taken and leave the score section blank. The admissions people know how long it takes to get scores.

I like how you’re asking questions last minute.

Common sense says, if you’re not sure about whether you should put the most important activities on top, what would you normally do?

Having a “laundry list” of activities will not boost your chances, so those 1-2 activities that you cut won’t “make or break” your chances into HYPS

There’s a little stickied thread on the top of the forum that says “common application questions” that basically answers all the questions you just asked without forum cluttering.

Just to echo what the other poster said, include some but not all. Again, more does NOT mean better. >___<

Yes, I’d like to know this as well

I think someone already said that if the deadline says Dec 31st, then it means it has to be submitted by Dec 31st at 11:59pm

thats right^

don’t double space

moderate the margins - a little

try to get a 1.5 page or less

On the elaborate on one of ur ec’s question

do they want what you learned from the experience, or just what you did.
