OFFICIAL Common Application Questions Thread

that’s hilarious. What F***ers.

your scores are more than likely also on your transcript. if you do not send them the official score report then they cannot hold that against you.

I took them in Dec., so quite possibly they aren’t on my transcript. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

It won’t let me submit or print preview because it says my form is incomplete

but the only reason it’s incomplete is for my sibling it says “dates of enrollment” for college. and she’s still in college. what do i put for the “end date”?

thanks guys!

can i get a second verification on whether or not teacher recs have to be mailed by the deadline? thanks!

When she’s going to graduate…that’s what I did, anyways.

im too late with this now but i just had a panick attack and was wondering, is it better to self report all scores or only the highest ones?

mjl21590: It depends on the school, but most colleges only require YOUR part of the app to be in by the deadline. They know recs might take longer to arrive.

andy_g: Self report all scores just to be honest/consistent. Colleges will see all of them anyway from the CollegeBoard’s score report.

thank you! makes sense .. wow i’m slow

NewJack88: Scores on transcripts are not acceptable to all colleges. Check the websites to be sure; most schools we researched require official score reports from College Board or ACT.

I had the same problem-- so I emailed tech support about this, and they reset the button for me…surprisingly quickly, too!

1) I forgot to put my Bio score (the lowest one too), though this score is already sent in to all my schools. Is this ok? Would they think I did it on purpose because it was my lowest-scoring SAT II (kinda bad grade too)?

2) Paying Online: I keep on getting a DECLINE for no reason. I entered everything right but whenever I submit a notice comes out. Transaction was not completed/DECLINED and whatnot. Anyone know what’s going on?

3) Payment - How much? Since I’m international student, for NYU, instead of paying 65 i need to pay 75. When I got to NetPay, it gives 2 choices. 1) application US $65 and application Outside $75. Although i’m an international applicant, I live in the US. How much do I need to pay then? 65 or 75?

4) OMG - is this true?

"Please be patient once you have submitted your payment, it may take a few moments to process your request. Be advised that your credit card will be charged each time you hit the Submit button. "

I “submitted” Bentley TWICE because I kept on getting a DECLINE message. That means I just wasted 75 x 2 = 150?

If you want to add a new college, is it okay to select teachers who have submitted your recommendations already? Or is this impossible?

I didn’t notice that I’d done this and submitted my app. Since they’re need-blind for domestic students, I don’t think it matters–I think this is yet another instance of CC people freaking out too much. If you’re not domestic, you’re required to answer the question anyway.

My daughter contacted common app by email last night about her problem (post #1415). I am happy to report that they responded by email first thing this morning and corrected the problem for her. All in less than 12 hours!

chrysalis - If you look at the FAQ on Yale’s admission page it says they want you to self-report all test scores. The admissions officer will see them, but when the app goes to the committee for a vote, they will report only the highest relevant test scores.

Is there a way to indent paragraphs for my essays? Or should I not worry about it?

Don’t worry about this, it’s the automatic formatting.
Leave a space between each paragraph.

@kevster: If it was declined, you weren’t charged… maybe you’ve maxed out your credit card, check with your credit card provider

what do you mean you are an international applicant living in the US? I think if your living in the US, you’re not international.

For your Bio score, it’ll look kinda bad, but you won’t get rejected just for not reporting it -> let them know by e-mail or something just in case

Kevster, a couple of ideas come to mind. First, try searching the common app help section to see if this problem is addressed. Perhaps you already have.

Secondly, it could be a problem with the card. Is there another credit card you could try? So far as multiple charges my best guess is if you are getting a “decline” message no charges are going through. Oftentimes credit cards have a toll-free number you can dial to find out the latest charges made to the card. I don’t know how long it takes for that info to update. If you have online access to the credit card account, I’ve found it usually takes 24 hours for charges to appear for my cc. If you did get charged multiple times, contact the school’s business office, explain and ask for a refund on the card.

If a different credit card doesn’t work out, I’d e-mail the common app help desk.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out! Someone else may run into the same problem.
