Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2017

Cornell has extended the ED deadline to midnight, November 5 for all applicants due to Hurricane Sandy.

All applicants or just people who were affected by the Hurricane? Cause like, the Common App still says the deadline is Nov. 1st, and I’m on the West Coast, so I can’t use the excuse I haven’t gotten it done due to weather :P

I’m also a little confused about the supplemental essays; do they want more of like, a deep personal story with experiences or more just a list of why the major/school/cornell?

I’m obviously a bit of a procrastinator and I’ve written first drafts but still not entirely sure what they look for in those supplemental essays.

Any thoughts/help on the supplement essays in general?

I’m no expert, but I can take a look at your essay. You’re also welcome to read mine if you think it will help!

Could you? That would be amazing if you could help out :D

I know what to write about and have a lot of personal/job experiences that relate to me and my major, I’m just really at a roadblock for exactly how to convey it in writing.

If you could possibly PM me if you are interested I can send you my rough drafts for you to evaluate and help out. If its not too much trouble, I would also really appriciate it for an example, and maybe we could work on it together.

Thank you so much for the offer! :D

Does anyone know what date Cornell releases the early decision results? Last year was December 8th…is this year the same?

I’m not sure, they haven’t announced it yet I don’t think. It may be later because of the deadline extension? Do they announce the decisions for all the schools all at once?

everyone should post stats!! :))

@Newberrytiger They extended the deadline last year too though, so hopefully the results are around the 8th and not like the 15th or something like that. But yeah, all or most of the ivies release around the same time. I think they have an ivy agreement or something.

Haha stats haha hurr.

@flyingeagle- Yeah, I agree, the sooner the better. I’m so anxious.
I knew they had an agreement for regular decision but I didn’t know about ED. That’s interesting. Thanks!

Just applied ED to the ORIE progam in the College of Enginneering.
I have a 1600 Cr + M SAT and am a legacy.
I wish the best of luck to all others applying and I am anxiously awaiting mid-December along with you

Good luck to all applicants! I’m applying to the College of Engineering as well.
Also, is there anyone willing to take a look at my supplemental essay. I didnt get a chance to show it to my teacher b/c of the hurricane. Any help would be appreciated

I would hate to be an engineering student applying to Cornell, or any good school for that matter. The competition looks really tough.

Any other CALS applicants besides the one person doing atmospheric science who is from NJ if I recall correctly?

I applied to CALS! Biometry and statistics

I applied to CALS for biological sciences. My hook is by far my research.

Only 3 people (plus me) applying to ILR in this thread?

Hope I can see your stats so that I can see general level of people

I’m applying to ILR!! I go to a very competitive magnet school for law and public policy, I’m a coalition member of my county’s health department. 5 Ap classes this year, 4.0 gpa unweighted, 6.0 weighted. 2340 sat

Just got my Cornell ID! It’s really happening. I’m so nervous.
I suppose I’ll post my general stats. 3.58 UW 4.58 W, 29 ACT super score.
My portfolio is here: [url=<a href=“NewberryTiger - Student, General Artist | DeviantArt”>NewberryTiger - Student, General Artist | DeviantArt]Portfolio Submissions by NewberryTiger on deviantART/url
Applying to fine arts.
Keeping my fingers crossed. My stats could hold me back, but I gave it my best shot!

@Newberrytiger I’m no artist or anything but I really like your third drawing of the guy with his foot on the stool! It’s pretty awesome. I don’t know how it would compare to other people’s drawings though but I like it.

Thanks! I have no idea either, I’ve never seen an accepted applicant’s portfolio. Drawing is my weakest area, which I think is evident in my portfolio, but I’m hoping it’ll be alright. The drawing of my friend standing up is 24 x 32" (pretty big!) which may make up for the slightly wonky stools :stuck_out_tongue:

My portfolio is more technical and not so much conceptual (due to the nature of my curriculum and that it’s still early into senior year), but I did explain conceptual details about each piece in my submission. So if you have any questions about any of my work i’ll be glad to explain! :)
