Hi Statlerbound,

Did you have work experience in hotel before? How was the interview? Can you share some experience? Thank you.

Thanks, yomega :)

How many of you have received the financial aid?
@bro5596 are you from US? I am really worried about my aid decisions.

Hello! congrats to all who were accepted! To snow, I got into the Hotel School. What my interviewer really liked about me was my unique experience. I’ve worked in hospitals and other similar places on their hospitality, and how to improve patient satisfaction! Also was a leader for 3 years in a non-profit mission trip, and learned the business side of mission trips. I really stressed my interest in not only hotel hospitality, but the business of hospitality across all customer related fields.

This and a large amount of service hours I think got me in! Would love to hear your story as well!

@AmlanSinha yes, I am from the US.

@AmlanSinha

I am from the US. My aid came in–it’s a little more than we can afford, but i haven’t received any scholarship decisions yet. I am a little peeved that any scholarships I receive knock off work study and loans first, then knock down the Cornell grant-- not my contribution, nor my parents!

Well, my financial aid portal was updated today…it looks like I’ll be spending my winter break scouring for independent scholarships and hoping for good news from NMSC next month. I’ll likely have to take a work-study on campus to cover some tuition, as well.

@snow, I was also accepted to SHA ED. I worked the summer in a major hotel, the Sheraton Hartford at Bradley Airport, as well as a fast food joint. I also had experience working with international kids at a summer camp. My interviewer (the head of admissions for SHA) was very interested in my camp experience, and I also brought up how I had seen a lot of the “spectrum” of hospitality, working in a full service hotel and a fast food restaurant. I also grew up watching my dad own and manage apartment buildings which I spun in there.

Hope this helps! I’ve heard that even if you don’t have real hospitality experience you should try to spin your other experiences to somehow apply to hospitality. Good luck!

PS @Gabby210 Hi! Congrats on the acceptance! Psyched to meet you up in Ithaca.

@ForeverFish Hi! i was wondering what you meant by financial aid portal, did you receive an email from Cornell or did you mean you received you financial aid information through your online Cornell account? Thanks!!

@bright3014: Cornell sent me an email yesterday saying that my financial aid information had come through, on the original applicant portal. There was a link to Cornell’s financial aid page included. However, the actual aid information wasn’t available in my applicant portal until today.

Do you know when Cornell will release early admission stats? Most other top Universities have

Can I get in trouble for not withdrawing my other applications right away? My family is unable if we will be able to afford Cornell.

Any update yet regarding when the deposit is due?

Also anyone get their mail/FA info in the mail? Nothing yet in DC area.

Thanks a lot for sharing, Gabby210. Congrats too.

Thank you, dougieb92. Congratulations!

Any update yet regarding when the deposit is due?

Also anyone get their mail/FA info in the mail?

I believe the deposit is due January 24th

THANK you lillypod, just saw it through the decision portal.

For those who have found the area where you can pay the deposit, can you please direct me? Logging into the decision portal produces the same acceptance letter that appeared Monday evening. I suppose instructions should arrive in the mail, but I wanted to submit the deposit before I forgot to do so!

you click “link”, which can be found on the acceptance letter
