Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

^2011-Dec 8th
2012-Dec 13th

I don’t think it’ll be as early as the 8th. Cornell said they probably won’t postpone the notification date, though, so around Dec. 12 sounds pretty accurate.

Is it true that ED colleges will call up your school to ask for your first quarter grades?

Hey guys, I got my application ID just now and I looked at my status and at the bottom it says “please let us know which college you are applying to as soon as possible” but on common app I put the College of Engineering. What should I do

And also on the test score reports it says I need the TOEFL/TWE but not an international student. Does anybody else have the same thing?

Someone answer collegestress14’s question!!!

No, they dont. They dont have that much time. The first and second quarters are sent with the mid year report. At least thats wat my counselor is doing.

Got my app id ^.^

@pipe: I have a feeling that you messed up filling ur commonapp. But anyways, just specify the college again and look for a not required to test option if there is one

Do you think it’s bad that I didn’t include more than the 10 activities on the common application? I was advised to not add any others in the additional info. section or anywhere else. I was told that the shift towards only 10 activities was done for a reason and anything else was excessive.

Can we clarify the first quarter grades thing? I feel uneasy about it because it seems like something they would address very publicly if we needed to send them…

I think it officially says they only want first semester grades. That being said, if they want your first quarter grades they could probably call and ask if they wanted? I’m not sure.

If anyone has an answer to my question I would be extremely appreciative

It is my understanding, first quarter grades are sent with mid-year report by GC to ED school, obviously only if you’ve been accepted. The ED school wants to verify that the admitted student is maintaining good academic standing. muhammad9211 says that the AC doesn’t have time to check ED applicants first quarter grades during the ED application process. Does anyone know for sure if their decision is based on academic record from 9,10,and 11 grade only?

For Cornell ED, what your gpa is by the end of 11th grade is what you’ll be sending. I’ve never heard of the 1st quarter thing for Cornell, and I’m certain it doesn’t exist. They have that checklist for what they need from us, and only the first semester grades are on there. Lol relax, guys. If we’re missing anything, they’ll tell us.

There’s something called the Fall Report (1st quarter grades of senior year) that Cornell is supposed to request from each applicant’s school. Per my school college counselor, the school won’t send it if I don’t give consent, but then it looks pretty bad to the university’s admissions panel. I also read on one of the Cornell blogs that the Fall Report is strongly recommended, just so they can make sure you’re keeping up high academic performance.

@thrombocyte I think it depends on your situation and what you activities you have left to tell them. But I don’t think it matters that much. Don’t they only look at our apps for like seven minutes each? Unless you had something super important to tell them, I doubt it makes that much of a difference.

^A couple of my friends applying EA to MIT calculated that the admissions officers will spend about 13-14 minutes on each application, lol. With the deadline pushed back a week, though, it’s probably less than that.

hmm…i dont see anything about a fall report on that blog.

lol 13-14 minutes is still rough…we work on our apps and essays for months only for our entire lives to be judged in <15 minutes.

has anyone read this article about college admissions officers? XD i cringed a bit…

On the subject of quarter grades, I think you guys are able to send them if desired, but it’s not /required/. The GC’s at my school have never brought it up, and I imagine they’d at least touch base with us before sending anything out. Some schools, like Duke and Brown, DO request first quarter grades and this is explicitly stated somewhere on their sites. I didn’t see anything of the sort on Cornell’s, so I’m guessing that it’s entirely up to you (all)!

And I agree that ED decisions will probably come out on the 12th! It’s been a Thursday for the past two years so I wouldn’t be surprised if they continued the pattern.

@Bubbles888: If you scroll down to the comments, you’ll find that several people asked about the first quarter grades (I guess it’s just my school that calls them Fall Reports). The response to each question was more or less the same: It’s highly recommended that you send them, as Cornell wants as full a picture of you as possible.

@Coriander23: Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised, either. I volunteer on Thursdays from 4-7, so I’ll either have to check while I’m there and be too happy/sad to focus, or wait the agonizing 3 hours until I get home.

wow haha, mentioned in the comments of the blog? i wonder how many applicants don’t know about this. are you guys going to send in your first quarter grades? from what it looks like, if you don’t send yours in, they might ask for them anyway from your counselor
