i recently had an alum interview and he told me that what he thinks the admissions system is: they put your application in 3 piles: yes, no, maybe.

if youre a definite no, you dont get an interview, while if youre a definite yes you may not get one either.

I thought the alumni interview is only about location and time.
I’m an international student, what I received is a CIEE interview, not alumni interview. Anyone has any thoughts about it?

That might have been the case when collegestress14’s interviewer went to Cornell, but it’s definitely not true now. Cornell only requires interviews for the Hotel school and the Architecture major in AAP. For everyone else, it’s based solely on time and location – in the past, applicants who have gotten interviews have gone on to be rejected, while applicants who haven’t gotten interviews have been accepted. It’s only been a week since the ED deadline, and I doubt that the admissions officers have made any definite decisions about anyone’s application.

Besides, unless the alum has worked for Cornell admissions in the past, I’m not sure how he/she would know the evaluation process.

To those wondering if you should have received an interview request yet—the answer is that it depends on where you reside. Some CAAAN locations are still rolling out the requests to the volunteer interviewers. The interviewers have a very tight timeframe for contacting, interviewing and submitting paperwork. Everything has to be wrapped up shortly after Thanksgiving.

My sense, and I have no insight, is that Cornell must be struggling with the CA glitches. I don’t know if their primary/secondary school choice is causing more glitches than other universities experienced, but I was surprised to see that they have already deferred the RD submission date and are opening up Universal app as an option.

@1111pipe1111 Are you Early Decision? I believe that you can’t currently send November scores, you have to wait until they are released on Wednesday. Then, you can rush them but Cornell does not promise they’ll get them in time to be considered for ED – rush reporting takes something like 2 days but it might take Cornell another week to process them. Have you previously sent them any scores?

Yes I am applying early decision. And No I haven’t send in any of my scores but I have some to send. Is the subject test that I took in November that I don’t have. So should I send the scores I have now?

wulawula: I’m a CALS applicant and I have my interview tomorrow. the person went to my high school and lives by me, so I agree with the people who say it’s based on location.

So, interview means you are a “maybe” candidate if you are applying to say Arts and Science OR engineering?

Also, do u guys know if Cornell considers the highes subscores for the ACT (without re-calculating the composite score)? Thanks! (please let me know how they updated your ACT score on the portal, if you took the ACT multiple times… Thanks!

@1111pipe1111 You are in a tough spot – all your scores are late. It really is up to you how much you want to spend on rush reporting. I was wrong earlier – the November scores come out on Thursday.

I have a question about interview. I know that interview is offered based on location. However I noticed that my friend(who goes to same school) had interview today but I didn’t even get any email. He is applying to COE and I am applying to CALS
