Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

People… I am from Wisconsin here… Really wanna go to Cornell. Just curious if Cornell takes the highest subscores (without re-calculating the composite score)… I am applying RD.

For SATII, I got a 800 Math2, 800 Chem, 720 Bio, 710 Physics… Can I use score choice to send only Math2 and Chem scores OR does Cornell not participate in Score choice at all?

Hey, I’m not from Wisconsin, but I did my state report on it! Such a cool state  I think I still know more about Wisconsin than I do about California, which is where I’m from…

To answer your question, the highest scores from each section are automatically taken, but I don’t believe that Cornell participates in score choice. You’ll have to send all of them, but I’m sure that they’ll focus on your 800’s the most!

Whoa, I just remembered that I accidentally put a picture of the Finger Lakes as the cover of my state report, seven years ago, thinking they were the Wisconsin Dells. And guess where Cornell is by?!

dons tinfoil hat

@agg999- they don’t call it score choice, but admissions told me on the phone that you can select which SAT II tests you want to send (however your scores are all good, so it’s up to you :)

agg999, the following Cornell blog may help answer some of your SAT II questions

http://blogs.cornell.edu/admissions/2013/11/07/sat-subject-tests/

Thanks everyone! I am still not clear about the SATII… I will have to figure that one out soon.

@Coriander23 when u say highest scores are taken from each section are u referring to the SAT, ACT, or Both? Thanks!

@Renomamma Thanks! What do you mean by they don’t call it score choice?

Cornell says they don’t allow score choice, but the admissions office tells you that you can select which SAT ll test scores to send. Since I’ve read conflicting information, I decided to call admissions and that’s what they told me. I agree it’s not very clear.

I wonder how long this thread will be by December 12th-ish…only 3 weeks away!

@ForeverFish Haha no, I applied a week before the deadline, I meant I just received confirmation that they got all my stuff.

I’m nervous as hell haha. On one hand I would be ecstatic if I got in since Cornell is my #1, but on the other hand having options and applying to a lot of colleges is cool too.

Nevertheless, Mid-December can’t come quickly enough!

Cornell does not accept score choice. They will see all of your SAT subject test scores and they will use your top scores.

Cornell sent me an email yesterday saying that application material was missing and then sent another email today saying that it was a mistake and everything’s in. The email also said that the selection committees are reviewing completed applications currently… Do you think it’s possible that Cornell could have reviewed my application before my Nov Sat scores get there? (Scores come out this Thursday so I don’t really know when scores will be sent… but…) I indicated that I’ll be taking the Nov SAT on my common app and also listed Cornell as one of my recipients the day before I took the Nov SAT. I think Cornell could potentially put off my application till Nov scores get sent since the email said “If you took the Nov SAT, we’ll get the scores later this month”. Any thoughts??

^^ interesting if you call admissions they tell you that you can select which scores to send…and you can. Too bad it’s not more clear.

@renomamma @hawk357 It seems that the difference is between SAT I and SAT IIs. You can’t choose which SAT I’s to send to Cornell, but College Board lets you choose which SAT II’s (subjects) to send, even to Cornell (though I haven’t tried it). The online Cornell interface shows the best scores from each part of the SAT I. Whew!

Also, if you’re using ACT, you can just send SAT IIs (and select which ones) and not send the SAT l. That’s what they tell you in admissions and also I found this posting from last year.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1400119-do-i-have-submit-my-sat-i-score.html

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse, so I’ll stop now with this topic :/

What about the ACT’s? How do they list them on the online interface? Do they take the best subscores (without recalculating the composite score)?

For SATII’s, funny… I think even Cornell admissions are not aware of their policy… I got an e-mail yesterday saying they don’t particpate in score choice for any forms of testing. I actually don’t get this. Are subject test scores included on the online portal?

A few days ago, I got the email saying I was missing stuff too, which freaked the heck out of me. So I immediately called admissions and they told me it was just a timing issue with sending out the email and updating the apps. They actually had everything from me and already sent my app to the committee for review. Which is also scary lol. They could be looking at my application right now :O

@pomplamousse: No worries – I don’t think they’ll make a final decision on your application without having your SAT scores. If you already have scores on file with Cornell, they have to consider those at least until your Nov scores arrive (if they’re on time, of course). I sent my scores in October, and they only took a week or so with regular delivery. Then again, now that College Board is probably very busy getting the Nov tests processed, the wait time might be a little longer.

@agg999: Yes, subject tests show up on the portal.

BTW, my application status on the portal has changed to confirm that all of my materials have been processed and that my application has been forwarded to the admissions office for consideration.

I had my alumni interview today and it was super informal so I think these are pretty much just to make sure that we’re sane people hahaha. I doubt they really have much of an influence when they consider our applications. Also the interviewers only know which college you’re applying to and your major, they don’t know anything about your grades or your essays.
