Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

i got an interview last week, but a classmate of mine from the same town has not gotten a call… do you think that indicates anything?
my interviewer even said that I’m the only one he was asked to interview from my town

hey everyone, I applied to the Hotel School! anyone else??

hey dougieb92! Im applying to the Hotel School also!!! I’m so excited!

On collegeboard, i rushed my scores and it said they were sent on the 22nd. my cornell id didnt say they went through but my other ea schools already recieved them… why is this? has cornell already viewed my app?

Aah! I just got a phone call from an alumnus in my area who’ll be interviewing me next week! I was completely under the impression that the window for interviews had already passed so this is an awesome surprise :slight_smile:

For those of you applying to CALS who already had their interviews, what were they like? Should I wear a Cornell sweatshirt or just stick to something red? Thanks guys!

@collegestress14 Yeah same thing happened to me. I didnt get phone call but my friend did. What does that mean??

Everywhere I read said the CALS doesn’t offer interviews? What are you majoring in, if you don’t mind me asking?

@yalesoon They are only informational interviews by alums, not official evaluation interviews. But I’d still suggest dressing nicer than a t-shirt or sweatshirt, @coriander23 :-)

My son got a snail mail letter yesterday acknowledging his application with lots of stats about admissions and financial aid. I think it was 1) a nice offer to answer questions even though he’s legacy and might think he knows it all, but 2) a clear message that he shouldn’t count on getting accepted :-p.

That’s a good idea, crowlady, thanks for the advice! In that case, I think I’ll probably wear a sweater with a skirt or something of that sort. I’d better polish up on my interviewing skills in the next couple of days, haha. But yes, they aren’t “formal” interviews or anything of that sort, and I think receiving one just depends on the availability of the alumni in your area.

And I’m applying to CALS as a Biological Sciences major!

Should I be worried that I didn’t get any letters or calls? I applied to CoE if that means anything.

@yalesoon
don’t worry too much, i had a mental melt down when I wrote the graduation year wrong, the admissions people were nice enough to let me change it!!!

@quanlude
that’s not possible, I am from China too, and I got an alumni interview!
Which part of china are you from?

My S applied ED a couple of years ago. We live in Virginia and he went to a boarding school about an hour away. We got no calls, no offers for interview, nothing. He was admitted. Schools will tell you that an “interview” isn’t that important. Remember this is a 2 way street. Cornell want YOU to want them as much as for them to want you…It’s about PR. The “interviews” are really more informational for the applicant. I’m sure there’s some feedback from the interviewer, but will Cornell or any other school REALLY depend on what an alum says in reviewing an application? The alum could be untrained, weird, or something else worse. They aren’t paid, they are volunteers. This is just a service, so don’t take it so seriously.

Hi Lily, I’m in Jiangsu Province, Changzhou city. Where do you come from? Anyway, I have already finished my interview and I did hear somebody in China only get CIEE interview like I do.

@Lilyyunqi & @quanlude
I’m also from china and just now I got an e-mail from an alumnus who will interview me.
Apparently I have to call him to make an appointment. I’m now wondering should I start the call with Hello, I’m *** or nihao.( a silly question ><)
And since you guys already had the interviews,would you please tell me what questions did you get? and what were the interviews like?

Does anyone have an un-updated cornell application status on the website for november 2nd sat scores?

I’m applying to CAS and just received an email from an alumnus inviting me to an info session.

Funny thing is, I’m pretty sure the guy is my friend’s dad.

I applied to CoE and got an interview call recently. I actually called them and they said they don’t offer interviews to CoE applicants but apparently they do. Anyone else?

Coder–COE does NOT offer interviews. The call you received is from a Cornell alum who lives in your area. THe alum interviews are offered to as many applicants as the CAAAN can manage to reach in the limited time they have. Your interviewer may be an Eng grad or may know little about Engineering.

@stjohnson Im going through the same thing with an un-updated application status for the nov. scores. It says that the last time it was updated was 11/23 (surprised it wasn’t updated today since it’s a weekday), but hopefully our scores will be added on tomorrow. I also mailed a 3rd teacher rec after the deadline, and I hope to see that updates as well. When did you report your Nov. scores btw? I reported mine on the day I took the test.
