Re: Likely letters are only for recruited athletes now. Cornell has been sending Likely Letters for spring admits for a long time…at least since my days in the 80s.

Within each institution’s overall admissions process, from October 1 through March 15 an admissions office may issue probabilistic communications, in writing, to applicants who are recruited student-athletes. (Such communications given by coaches, whether orally or in writing, do not constitute binding institutional commitments.) An applicant who receives one or more such written communications and who has made a decision to matriculate at one institution is encouraged (but not required) to notify all other institutions, and to withdraw all other applications, as promptly as possible.

On a common date, usually in late March or early April, applicants to the Ivy institutions will be notified of admission decisions and financial aid awards, unless they have been notified earlier under Early Decision Plan or Early Action Plan procedures. (Letters are mailed beginning in February for the Schools of Hotel Administration, and Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell, and beginning in February for the School of Nursing at Penn.)

Sorry for confusion. D is recruited athlete. Ivys use likely letters to reassure athletes since other D1 schools can commit to students before admission results come out. At Cornell, a coach supports an application. Student applies to a school, admission reviews application and then generates likely letter. At the ivys, admissions have final approval on all applicants.

hey does anyone have an account on College *******?..i do, and i just got a notification saying that Cornell Early Decision results will be released December 15th…which is strange since no one else has even mentioned that date yet…

Usually mid December (like the 15th) is the accepted time to be getting ED/EA decisions for all schools. This year, the fifteenth is a Sunday so that means decisions are most likely a different day, like the 13th or the 16th. However, I could be wrong.

Thursday is pretty accommodating if you think about it – if you need to contact them you can do it on Friday and not suffer over the weekend. Is it just me or is Cornell’s Admissions unusually pleasant to deal with?

But with the deadline extension for submission, it’s possible that they extended the notification date too, right? - so they could get everything done on time possibly.

Oh okay, didn’t really go through all the posts on this thread so wasn’t aware of that. Then I guess the 12th sounds reasonable. Just 11 days left!

^I’m a little late to the party, but yes – I checked Cornell’s official blog a few weeks ago and they said that, as of then, they had no plans to postpone the decision date. They didn’t delay for Hurricane Sandy last year, so I’d be surprised if they chose to do so this year.

Lurker here. I applied to CALS for Biology and Society-so nervous, it’s getting close! Is anyone else hoping that in 2 weeks they will still be able to wear their Cornell gear?

Guys, I will feel so bad if they send us an email saying that the decisions are out on 16th because I am way to convinced that it is gonna be on 12th. Waiting for 4 extra days would kill me!

It probably says the 15th on that website because a lot of schools release ED results on that day. Haha I’ve already got it set in my mind that results come out on the 12th. Waiting until the 16th would definitely feel unbearably long because it’d be carrying onto the next week!

Well – last year, the decision date was the 13th and emails were sent on the 5th, so perhaps we can expect notification around the middle of next week?
