Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

I thought UIUC’s CS program is competitive? And did you guys get financial packages?

Hey guys, good luck with admission tomorrow. If you get in or even get rejected and are looking for advice on ANYTHING (housing, class selections, visiting, dining, grades, etc.), please let me know. I came from a pretty competitive high school and this one semester at Cornell has been the most relaxing yet challenging period of my life (and as an engineer)!

I promise I’ll give you honest answers.

NOTE: It seems like it is actually always snowing/raining/hailing in Ithaca haha

(bonee26: very nice safety and good choice of programs to apply to. I always hear of people applying to HYP for CS and am left confused)

bonee26 - what do you mean you are waiting for Cornell, Princeton and CMU’s decisions? Princeton is SCEA. You can’t apply to both Cornell and Princeton EA. If that’s what you did, you are in violation of Princeton’s SCEA agreement:

I believe both Cornell & CMU’s decisions are binding.

Princeton SCEA, Cornell and CMU RD. UIUC is priority and not in violation of the SCEA agreement. UCIU gives financial packages in mid January.

Ithacan passing by…

Deferred by UIUC with an SAT1 2250 & 3.93 GPA…casting a cloud over my Cornell ED result.

anyone else apply for animal sciences at CALS? so not looking forward to decision day, doubt ill get in

@miren2011,
I took an animal behavior class at Northwestern and it was fantastic! I wish you luck.

@miren2011
I’m applying to Animal Science, with the intention of being pre-vet. Sigh… 15 people from my school were accepted to Harvard yesterday and now I’m worried about my chances.

thanks @violabug3 :slight_smile:
@jahmmhan, yeah loads of people were just accepted to nyu stern and columbia from my school. I’m also using this as pre-vet but my standardized testing was really not good so yeah. I hope they look at our ECs and everything else too :(

Guys any south asians here who applied to CoE?

The link to make the password expired and now I’m not receiving an email after requesting another one.

@mitaspirer I would be shocked if there aren’t quite a few East/South Asians in Engineering. About 16.5% of the University is ethnically Asian, and 20% of the university is international. Let’s assume that the same ratio of international students exists between all colleges (even though engineering probably has more international), and that the 16.5% of all international students are ethnically Asian (which I imagine ethnic Asians account for many of the international students). This means that of the 750-ish Engineering students, at least 25 are likely to be from South/East Asia.

Why is there such a low enrollment percentage from New England? It’s less than the West and barely more than the Midwest and South.

So what is the first thing you guys are gonna do if you get accepted?
It’ll be 3am for me so I’ll probably wake the entire neighborhood with my screaming. Then take my physics exam like a boss, and chill with friends, celebrate!

…or crawl up in a corner all day if I get rejected

@Alexmer Nearer competition from Harvard and Yale and others.

I’ve actually put a lot of thought into what I’m going to do, and I’ve dreamt about it haha.
I’m going to take a million screen shots, order a bunch of Cornell merch from amazon, tell everyone in the world, and find everyone else who gets accepted and become best friends with them!
In my dreams, I dreamt that my family flew with me straight to Ithaca and I started classes the next day hahaha

@mitaspirer
East Asian applying CoE

I’ve seen a lot of people get in to ILR and Cornell in general with lower ACT/SAT scores, and I know that’s on the basis of how “'fit” oriented Cornell is. Have you guys heard of anyone getting in with a lower GPA but good test scores if they are a perfect fit?

Is anyone here from Bangladesh? or India? I have a sat score of 2120 (Maths 780, W 670 & CR 670), a TOEFL IBT 113, a GPA of 4.0/4.0. Do you think I have chance?
